im trying to mix the kick drum for my band we are metal and i like the kick drum sound of bands like Atreyu and slayer, just a real great metal sounding kick . im using the waves gold bundle what compressor and eq should i use and also i need to know for the eq how should i eq to get that sound..for example should i turn the the highs up and the lows down or what? Im more concerned about geting the punchy sound along with the snap..thanks

The kick sounds that you mention are triggered. The closest you can get to it would be to cut 400Hz add 4kHz and run it into a limiter.
The sound will have to start with the drum. You need to use a hard beater (wood, plexiglass, plastic) and a danmar pad wouldn't hurt (the plastic ones sound better than the thick metal ones. You will also want to dampen the kick heads so they don't ring.

Thats a litle hard to say...You could try many things.
1.Try the normal audio chain ren comp+ren eq(and if you have L1 put it in the final)
Eq settings: try pulling down freq arround 300 and 500, and add kick between 3000 and 5000. You can also try adding more detail on 9000, 10000 but i don´t usualy do that but try it.Don´t add nothing on the 80...try like that.
If you still don't like it...
2. on the audio chain try using a plugin called mic modulator from antares before the compressor and thoose a mic that gives you what you want.
Advice:
You cold try duplicating the kick track and in one use the normal chain and in the other just ad the antares. ;)
If Still you aren´t pleased...
Instead of the antares plugin , try recording or buying a good sampler cd with a kick drum that you like and triger it with a Dx plugin called drumagog.
Advice:
You cold try duplicating the kick track and in one use the normal chain and in the other just ad the drumagog. :D
Then make your choice!

Cheers

One thing more,In the audio chain ad Gate before the comp with fast attack and fast release.

A lot of the really heavy metal kick sounds are triggered, but there are plenty of them out there that aren't. One thing I notice about those kick sounds is the lack of much compression, but some very radical EQ'ing and some fairly tight gating. Try either leaving the lows flat, or give them about a 3db bump at about 80 hz. Then, scoop the crap out of the mids from about 110 all the way to about 2k. Then add a fairly wide bump centered around 5 or 6k. you can comp to taste, but it seems I never really see them comp much more than about 3 db, at about a 2 or 3:1 ratio. The EQ seems to be the really important part. Even though it goes against much of what we learn.

Bingo.
Start the chain with a gate, then compression to accent the real hits instead of parts of the kit bleeding through. If you reverse it, snare hits and cymbals will be extremely (and I mean extremely) shrill, even if you've got it gated to perfection.

is there any pacific typeof gate compressor and eq use with the waves gold bundle. i know its all about the lsitening and the sound im looking for but can i get some compression setings for the kick, snare, and over heads just to mess with...im still a newbie thanks

Just don't let the click outweigh the thud... that just sounds silly.

C1 does the trick, so does Renaissance Comp.
