Joe Fox from Dartmouth, Massachusetts. New to forum.. Any folks here from around my locale?Give me a shout.

I used mics for a panel discussion and got feedback. What causes feedback and how do I avoid it.

We all began as newbies. When I started, I asked engineers one questions during each session. I kept a notebook of the answers. Then an engineer gave me a big secret. He said, "There are three forms of information about this industry. 1- The physics; thigs that will never change like sound waves and acoustics. 2- The tings you have the power to change; like mic placement and the quality of the sound source. 3- The things that will fall into disuse through technological advancement as well as things that will not; the first is the media; the second is the mics and preamps. He said, there will always be newer things, but not necessarily better ones." I began collecting articles on all the things that would never change. I still have three notebooks of those materials that I always refer to. I hope this helps someone in their quest for the perfect sound. Rod Norman
