Hi guys! Here is mine, feedbacks and comments appreciated ;)

(I wasn't authorised to paste the full Url, sorry...)

I've listened to a few other mixes, some of them are very good, sound's like it's going to be hard to pick the winners !

Hey everybody,

this is my mix. Tried to put you in front of the band. Such a great energy in the song. Listening to other submissions, i find there is so
much harshness in a lot of mixes, I wanted to have mine sounding a little more fat in the low mids. Check it out and let´s see how you like it. You can find the mix details in the soundcloud description.

Good luck!!

I was curious if you really managed to get that "in front of the stage" feeling.
I think you nailed it very nicely! Now I'm only missing the jubilant audience :)

Cheers,
Andy

I do not want to get more fancy. Too much written and that sheet it is old. Pro Tools 10 goes to 32bit float internal engine, that means around 1600Db dynamic range, much more mixer internal headroom and more precision during signal processing. They are saying that on Avid page. In our "limited perception" world, the engineer counts much more than those numbers. But I can't say I do not like a better machine for helping me to reach my goal :)

Hi all, fortunatly the real life continue between two samples, such at 192kHz , you can check that with a TruePeak meter, such "PPMulator" Zplane for example. The TP measure show you the interpolate level between 2 samples. For treated this kind of interpolated waves you can use a TP limiter such "Elixir"-Flux. That's take a lot of computer ressources.

Anyway the quality of mixes is very high..

This Just In - GearfestPuremixContest - Todd Herrbach

Hey Guys and Gals.. Nice work on all of the great mixes. Here's my go at it, squeaked in just in time.

Note:

Todd Herrbach's entry to the GearFest Mixing Contest.

I went for a clean sparse mix. A couple things to note:

I cut up the kick track and moved the chorus kicks to a new track to treat it differently. I also cut up the overhead tracks and put the tom fills and high hat only sections on different tracks in order to give them a different treatment.

I bounced her vocal track with some drastic volume automation between soft and loud sections to another track. I used the new track with embedded volume changes to do compression and final volume automation. The goal in this was to keep every syllable out front without using massive limiting. I also took out all of her breaths.

MIxed "in the box" on Pro Tools 9 with Genelec monitors.

Thanks for listening!

Hello ,
I have a question.
Is it needfull to post the Mix Ive made here in this Forum ?

cheers

I needed three posts to figure out how to insert the SC-link without posting ten times...

Now that the contest is nearing the end, for us newbies it would be helpful for future efforts to know what the common mistakes/oversights have been on the mixes. General obesrvations would be helpful and some guidance on where to go or what to read for solutions. From what I have read on this forum there is a lot of technical issues discussed and many options or avenues to correct them. I know the stems were not recorded in ideal conditions, which made the mixing effort a lot more difficult than would be expecetd, but I'm sure some of you seasoned vetreans get this kind of situation many times. Just thouhgt I'd get some general discussion going before we close this effort out.

Near the end - Feedback on my mix?

Hello! I just found out about this forum through the competition and very excited to be a new member here! I'm a musician that's been doing some audio engineering at a hobby level and trying to learn more (started taking some classes) so I entered this contest as a fun experiment. If you've got a second please listen to my mix and let me know what you think, thanks! =)

I think that one of the main mistakes we do is that we don't *objectively* listen to what we do; and 99,99% of beginners just can't (I consider myself as a beginner btw). We often focus on details but we lose the overall perspective. To me it is one of the toughest things to achieve: listen to our mix as if we were not the one who mixed it. It probably takes years to reach that level of objectiveness...

Click the Go Advanced tab on the bottom of the posting screen and the soundlcoud ICON should be the last one. Also, they removed the 10 post limit (or so I had read) so it should work.

Good point, I had the same problem with a bit different perspective. I wanted it to sound like what I like and not necessarily what the genre of the music dictates or the band might want.

Absolutely, objectiveness implies having a reference point from which to look. If you look at the sky from your point of view you see the sun turning around earth, but if you take distance and take the point of view of the universe, this time you have the truth: earth is turning around the sun.
Musically speaking, the referential is all the music that exists. Of course you can (and are encouraged to) come up with something new, but don't drift too much! Be objective about your work!
