Does anyone know a place in Chicago where I can rent High end mics? I'm looking for Royer and Neumann stuff. All I can find is press conference and Live sound rentals that listed the Beta 52 as a vocal mic....

Appreciate any help,
-Barrett

There's gotta be someone in chicago. You could try calling any of the commercial studios in Chicago and do one of two things. Sometimes studios will do this:

1) Ask the studio if they have an option to rent out some of thier in-house mics and work out the deal (usually with the studio manager).

or

2) Ask the studio if they could extend you the number of any of their equipment rental networks in the area.

Even commercial studios have to "outsource" sometimes when they need to rent specific types of gear, therefore, there should be shops setup close by to service that need. These shops can be pretty hard to find, so you might get lucky talking to one of the local production houses.

If not, I know there's a company abased in NY that specializes in gear rentals as a mail order system. It might be worth looking into:

www.dreamhire.com

I'm hoping your pockets are deep for the kind of stuff you're looking for.

I know a couple of places here in KC...there should be a dozen places in Chicago.

That's real good advice LeeRosario You might try some of the Instrument shops in the area. They might be able to direct you to someone who knows something.

Thanks so much for the tips! I think I might even be able to do the dreamhire if none of the local studios are crazy about loanin out gear. But I'm definitely going to need to make a few phone calls. I was't sure if it was out of line to call a studio and ask to rent their gear.

I've got a buddy I'm recording an album with right now and I brought the gear renting up to him and he said he'd help shell out some cash to rent some nice gear.

I appreciate all the help,

I think an old acquaintance of mine still works for a sales and rental place in the southern suburbs, but I don't have the contact information with me. I'll try and get that a bit later today. In the meantime, this should get you started:

Awesome, The rent sound website seems really helpful. I was also looking into some EVs and this has got a few I was looking to try out.

Thanks a ton,
