Anyone reccomend a half decent gate, im going to use it for my guitar amp for now but would like to be able to use it on drums etc in the future...

Beleive it or not, the Behringer gates aren't so bad. Next step up would be something like a DBX 1074, and then up from that you are looking at Drawmer, Aphex, and BSS.

i use a bbe sonic maximizer/noise gate

i found that i use the noise gate far far more often than the maximizer, its a pretty good gate.

Behringer my ass.

Ok i'll get a behringer. Gonna get a V-amp pro as well. Thats TWO behringer products, thats two HUNDRED lash's of the special whip now.

Go find a used Aphex 622 Gate. Very decent gate. Less expensive than a Drawmer or a Rane.

Unfortunately, i'll have to agree with this statement!

While 86% of Behringer gear is pure crap, they do deserve some small kudos for thier decent, signal dynamic processors such as the AutoComm and Composer pro.
I own an old Beh's Intelligate designed specifically for gating purposes.
It also comes with Hi/Lo-pass filters that allow you to dial in and eliminate
hi-end hiss and lo-rumble.

Street about 35-40 bucks!

and unfortunately - they stole that design! from aphex i believe...i think it was their first lawsuit...

for simple gating background noise stuff - the lower end 4 channel ones will do. for snare kick and some toms...the ones with more control like the intelligate, drawmers, aphex's and the dbx 172 really come in handy. if you have eyes on doing more with it than yer amp - it's probably good to start with something with a little more control...

peace!

I have an old Valley Gatex quad gate I picked up on eBay for cheap. Really good gate

I too should get 300 lashes for my V-Amp Pro, Ha4700 Headphone amp and my MDX 2100 Composer OUCH! saying that, those are probably the three best behringer products on the market. I find the V-Amp Pro presets to be nothing less than terrible but once you get in and start tweaking it I find it's better bang for buck than the Line 6 POD
