Hey i'm a bit of a newbie with SX...
Is it possible to insert a plugin to the input signal and record it WITH the effect? Because the sends seem to be post-tape as they show up on the monitors while recording and after but if I bypass the sends the file plays dry.

I am curious because I don't have any external compressors and would like to lightly compress my mic signal using a plugin and record the compressed signal... is this possible?

thanks

No, sorry. I don't think that's possible.

Why can't you just apply the compression after recording? :)

okay thanks...

I just thought I might be able to get the levels a little hotter compressing the input, not to mention a bit more gain without peaking.

oh well, guess i'll have to use an outboard comp...

And yea, those links were the inspiration for the name...i was wondering if anybody would catch it!

You don't need an outboard compressor if you don't already own one. Just turn the compression effect on while your recording, get your levels to where you like them, record and then leave the compressor effect in your "effects rack" for your track. It won't be burned to the track, but it will still be functioning on it as if it was as long as you don't turn the compression off.

It just means that you have used one of the effect slots for your compression, no biggie. In addition, it's nice to have the flexability to make minor adjustments to effects after the recording just in case something didn't turn out right when you mix the track in with other ones.

Good luck!
