Future Vintage?

I've been wondering about this lately so I thought I'd throw it out to you all...

These days there is a huge market for quality guitars from the 40s-70s. Do you think that in 40 years or so, there will be a market for "vintage 2008" guitars? Or are we so far into the mass market age that todays "new" will only be "used" in a few years. I hope that makes sense.
Supply and demand. The supply side is pretty simple - how many of a particular item were made? Demand, however, is mercurial and nearly impossible to predict. In fact, strike the "nearly" from that statement.

Will that EVH Strat ever again be worth even what you paid for it? Who knows? But I don't buy guitars as financial investments for the same reason that I don't raise rabbits for food. When the time comes to liquidate the investment, I just couldn't do it.

I have a '63 Silvertone 1484 I paid $40 for in 1974. It is now worth maybe $400. Obviously, if I keep each of my guitars and amps until they are 46 years old, I will realize a huge profit.

Oh, wait a minute -- that's the eBay "But it now" price.

Never mind.

The only things left on the planet in 40 years will be insects and Ovations.

Hey Jimi. How ya' been? I'll bet that '66 Strat is worth a bit more than $150 these days.

I'm hanging in there lou. My mother passed away a few days ago after a bout with cancer. Other than that I'm fine.

Yeah, I feel like I could get my $150 back out of the '66 if I wanted to :D

I wish I had of had about $10,000.00 to have sunk into worthless 1966 to 1969 post CBS $150 strats back then. That was 1976 and I had alot of trouble getting $150 together for just the one '66 strat.

Actually, $150 was a pretty dog gone cheap price for a used strat even in '76..even if it was 10 years old. (they didn't have "made in mexico" ones at the time)

Sorry to hear about yer mom, Jimi. :(

I bought a 20th anniversary Les Paul Custom in '79 for $350. Probably worth $3000 or more now. I sold it in '88 for $600. Damn!!!!!

. Actually said:
Don Randall's (president of Fender when CBS bought out Leo in '66) quip about that was "Who the fuck do you think made Fender guitars in Fullerton?" He was a cool guy....sure didn't fit in with the rest of the country club crowd out here.
