I purchased this deck used a couple years ago so I had a way to playback some old recordings. It has met my needs for that purpose, but now I've decided to sell it. I would say it is in average condition and may need some professional work to bring it up to original specs.
I did some research on head inspection and relapping services. This company is well respected for this type of work.
This versatile deck will play 7" or 10.5" reels of stereo "half track" recordings at 7.5 ips or 15 ips. All switches, knobs and toggles are in good shape and work with expected Swiss quality precision. Audio line inputs and outputs are 3 pin XLR (balanced) style. There are also 1/4" jack mic inputs on the front panel. There is a factory stock tape editing block mounted on the right center of the faceplate. The deck sits inside a metal backing case with aluminum rack mount "ears". Alternatively, the deck has rubber feet on the back of the case so it can be run flat on it's back.
NOTE: The reels pictured are not for sale, but the original REVOX hubs will be included in the sale. I will also include an original STUDER/REVOX service manual for this model.
THE GOOD:
- I have tested the recording function (to the best of my ability) at both speeds through the XLR inputs using adapters to RCA plugs. The recordings are okay, but don't sound as good as the pre-recorded tapes I've played on this deck. I am not an expert, so I am not capable of testing all of the advanced functions of this deck.
- I played back several (pre-recorded) tapes at 7.5 ips and 15 ips through my 2 track stereo system, so those functions appear to be working fine.
- The "return to zero" function, the tape counter, fast forward, rewind and the brakes all work as they should.
- All LEDs and lamps are in working condition except for the VU lamp mentioned elsewhere.
- This is a world wide unit with voltage selector on the rear. I have a standard North American AC plug/cord to run it off 120 volts. (included in sale price)
THE NOT SO GOOD:
- There are a couple of small dents in the top of the faceplate that looks like someone was careless when unracking another heavy unit above this deck. (see photo album via link below) The dents do not affect functionality of the deck, but add to it's "B class" status.
- There is a slight bend in the rackmount back case that is purely cosmetic. (see link for photos) The case allows the PR 99 to be mounted in a standard 19 inch wide audio rack.
- During rewind function I noticed a slightly odd sound that made me wonder if something may need to be lubricated or if the capstan shaft is slightly off-kilter.
- The right VU lamp is burnt out, but I am including the proper replacement wheat bulbs. The VU peak lights (red) work properly, BTW.

BTW, I haven't been a member of this forum for long, but I have been a member at www.AudioKarma.org for more than 3 years and have also sold electronics/stereo items on EBAY for more than 10 years under my account "wunderkat". Thanks for your consideration.
