Thanks Joachim. My thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, I am not blessed with the ability to express my ideas clearly.
I totally agree about boutique stuff(and one of them, I wont say who.. ADMITTED to using home depot extension cord guts to make some of their "high quality" cable. In a related story..a sucess story with Home Depot stuff, and not a scam..

I have done it myself, and the differences are visible. Transfering the same track from a hard disc recorder to the computer with standard cheap cable
and a shielded mogami cable with an rf-stopper.
But more important, the difference is audible. Quality cables make a difference. Admittedly, boutique cables are mostly a huge rip-off costwise, but you get better sound. Quality DIY stuff is the best option, and i think promoting such work is worth something to the homerec community.
