Fruity Loops

I just downloaded Fruity Loops 3 from Kazaa for free. It's included sounds are really pretty lame when applied to rock/metal music, but apparently it's the best thing out here. They need to design a similar program for musicians instead of just catering to pussy dance music.

Here's a related question for you Fruity xperts, how do I increase the tempo of a drum roll progressively (starting slowly buiding to a crescendo) and then pasting the mix in Sonar?

Hey John,

I checked out your soundz and they are terrific. Is there any real guitar in there? I thought there might be.

Anyway, great stuff, inspirational on the FL and Synth front.

Overall, great sound, beat and feel.

Well done.

Regards

Paul

Guitars are real but recorded through the POD 2.

...i live in an apartment. Im a nice guy....

thanks

Look at the size of the download. Take into consideration the compression and then consider how much more room a whole bunch of "sounds that don't suck" would take up. This is a common perception of Fruity. You couldn't make it a realistic downloadable file with lots of great sounds. It would be the size of a CD.

Just like all sequencer programs out there, they are complex, and they don't make the music you want right out of the box.

As for "pussy dance music", refering to electronica as "pussy dance music" is funny. You should listen to Aphex Twin. Tell me "Come To Daddy" isn't some of the most f*cked up heavy "metal" you've heard. That is just one branch electronica. And be aware that in another 10 years or so most "metal" will be made or influenced by digital computer production, aka "pussy dance music". hehe.

Anyway learn Fruity and visit their forums and learn. Oh, Fruity is only like $99.00 if you deceide you like it. You get free upgrades for life. Buy it. It really the best deal out there in music software.

hehe, I was wondering what kind of responses I might see from that comment. I dont have much against electronically produced music it just doesn't compare to real music played by real musicians(just my opinion-but then, we all have one of those). Any schmuck with little to no musical training can take this program and make 'pussy dance music'. That's what this program seems to be aimed at. What I meant in my original post was that fruity loops should really come out with some software designed just for musicians, something that enables time signature changes, volume changes, more complex drum fills, sheet music, etc.

Fruity is waaay more complex than you know. Just about everything is automatible (if that is a word). Change tempo, volume, tweak nobs whatever. It is all controllable. It's like it is open ended. Users are coming up with new ways to do something that I don't even think the developers thought of. Things Fruity don't do: Score, record actual audio (like sonar), chop up loops, on the fly time/pitch shifting (ala Acid). Because Fruity started as a software drum machine the program is a bit quirky in it's layout and logic. It also looks a bit "toyish" but it ain't. There are alot of producers/musicians using Fruity as a profesional tool (ie getting published).

You see when you work in Fruity you aren't using MIDI. You can really easily link objects in the program to midi channels, but when you sequence IN Fruity you are not using MIDI. This makes it really flexible and easy to use once you get the logic of the software. You can still control outboard equipment just like regular sequencers but using the softsynths in fruity is a joy. It's tweak heaven. Now Reason is a real similar and more industrial strength IMO but I think Fruity is way more flexible with it's DX/DXi and VST/VSTi implamentation. Pair Fruity with SOnar and their ain't much you can't do. Just shake off the techno vibe it has and get creative with it.

Yeah, the included sounds lean that way. But you can use any sample you want.

Would you say "the Fender Strat was designed in the early 50's, and therefore it can only be used to play 50's music?"

Didn't think so.

Anyway, back to my point, if you can use any sample you want, and you still insist that it has a pre-designed "sound," the problem is not with the computer software, it's with your internal software. Presets and included sounds and samples in any software are just there to stimulate your mind... it's not the programmer's fault if your mind is not willing.
