fruity loops song

I posted this in the hip hop section, but i dont know how many people look at that

Ive been messing around with fruity loops for a while, i just got reason 4 but im waiting on a midi keyboard

Just grabbed this one before it slid off the front page:).

I have no problems with what you've put down so far, I just think this is so sparse that you need quite a bit more here to make a compelling track. Now I don't know fruity loops from apple jacks, so I have no idea what you have at your disposal, but I think this needs quite a bit more layering and a wider variety of sounds.

The sound quality of what you have seems ok, but I'm on a laptop so not so sure...:o. I would be looking into some heavier rhythmic elements to offset that mechanized beat. Maybe stuff that comes and goes throughout to add contrast. Also, I think more melodic sounds are needed to hold it together.

Just trying to help :D. Take it with a huge grain 'o salt!
 
The problem I have with software like Acid, Fruity Loops and even Ableton is the tendency to just throw together what the program provides as far as sounds, loops, etc. without adding new sounds or changing the stock loops. During the MIDI blowup there would be preprogrammed sequences that people would have on their keyboards that just sounded preprogrammed; lifeless, cut & paste, etc. Sometimes stuff produced with these programs sound like that to me.

Not saying this track is hopeless but it needs a bit of human intervention. Something to make it sound different than the demo song on the software. Not trying to be harsh, I'm very laid back in the Clinic and usually only post when I have something positive to say. But Tony, I can tell you have talent and a love for music and know you can add something to this track to make it off the hook. Be cool...
 
I made a bunch of fruity loop songs about 10 years ago, got old after about 2 months and went back to making music.
