I've been using an RCA-->1/4" to record on my computer's soundcard. Now I'm working more in stereo, but the cable only sends a single channel. Any suggestions for something I can buy/a different technique to help make the stereo 8-track to mp3 conversion?

Thanks

i did mean 1/8". hm I guess the cable I have must just not be stereo capable. thanks, dr. zee

check the 1/8" side of the cable, if it has two black lines around the metal part you stick in, it is stereo compatible. The problem could be that you are plugging it into the microphone input on your sound card, which will be mono. You want to plug it into the line-in or line level input which will be stereo

Your mic jack on your sound card is only mono-capable. Radio Shack sells as little RCA to usb interface for about $60 bucks that can be used for just the purpose you posted. If you are recording your own music, you might start looking at audio interfaces. E-mu, M-audio, Cakewalk and about 40 other companies make affordable, useable audio and audio/midi interfaces.

+1 to all above but if you decide to go the route of getting a USB interface don't spend 60 bones at Radio Shack for it. Behringer makes a basic RCA --> USB interface for about 1/3 the price...probably the same guts.
