Friendly advice needed! I have the studio bug!

I just recently visited a digital studio that was using a pro-tools based system. Now, at this point, I don't know what program I'll use (cakewalk..etc) but I need to know about the basic equipment needed. What I'm looking for is a way to record a 3-4 piece band live and then go back and edit using the computer.
I'm really not sure what is needed to get the signal where it is supposed to go. If someone has a list of basic stuff(besides mikes of course) and what it hooks to, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks!

Welcome to the Home Recording world Mr. Smith! The first thing I would do is go to the search button at the top of the screen and do a search for "computer setup" or something similiar. This topic has been covered extensively several hundred times in the past three months alone! You could really save yourself a ton of waiting time by doing the search. If you have any specific questions, we'd be happy to give you our opinions.
