A guitar player friend of mine decided he was going to restring and "set up" my
MIM strat for me. Being a bass player I figured why not he certainly must know more about it than I. Heck he's got a '68 strat. Long story short, He takes steel wool to the fretboard and knocks a 1" splinter off:( Like I said I'm a bass player but on occasion I use my strat to write and record with at my home. I kept the splinter with the thought I could glue it back on. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

You can certainly glue it back on. More information would be helpful if we are going to tell you what to do.

Two things needed to help are, 1 where on the fretboard and , 2 the type of wood. The piece can be glued back or it might be easier to smooth the edges and play with a missing sliver. If you decide to glue it back use a good wood glue, not epoxy or super glue.

Don't do anything until you have posted some pictures if you can.

Pictures that would be helpful are,

Of the splint, of the fretboard where it has come off and with it gently held in place. Do not force the piece in.

The chances are it is repairable but to advise I need some more info.
