Where can I find a luthier? And how do you say luthier is it like- looth ear?

I wouldn't tell him now even if he asked me. Sometimes its best to move on with some people. :D Anyone else unsure how to pronounce it or unsure where th term came from PM me :p

Luthier comes from the french word lute, people who made lutes later made violins. There are 2 catagories bowed instruments and plucked instruments. I still am not sure how to say it, is it (loot-er), (looth-er), (looth-ear) and it is french so it could be (loot-eh) or something.

Oh go on then I'll tell yer :) - Its pronounced.

lu-t'-eh. correctly you shouldn't sound the h as in 'th' but most people do these days...It is from the original western term for lute which was from the older Moorish 'ud. The ud was reconed to be the fist examples of stringed instrument to become popular in Europe. Current iconagraphic eveidence still supports this, at least it did last time I read around the subject. Better informed musicologists may want to correct me!!!

there are more than two catorgories. At least at the point you describe.

Start with the family "Chordaphone" Then subdivide "Plucked fretted","Plucked unfretted", "bowed fretted", "bowed unfretted" and "hammered". There are further sub catogories but these are the most important.

Eh?
What does it say different?
:)

I think my description is pretty much the Grove version...

Personally, I would just make or buy a "Fretboard Stretcher".

Isn't that the tool that has a long weight attached to it?

Yep, that's it. I don't see it in StewMac's catalogs anymore. They probably didn't sell very many. :D

I think most people these days just use a sky hook and a short weight. You can get those in any hardware store if you ask.....................................
