This is the first song from my new band/project. After nearly a year of searching I finally found a guitarist/co-collaborator that was in the same mindset musically. The material is a little darker than most of the stuff I have posted in the past. Im not sure if it was a conscious choice to take a different direction but so far it has been alot of fun to explore some of the other metal genres that I enjoy.

So onto the song.....the drums are temporary (have a friend who is going to track some stuff for us in december) but for now I want to get this sounding as good as I can with what we have now. With this demo we are hoping to draw in some more members (bass, permanent drums and possibly vocals) to fill out our live band . I could be way off but I feel like a well done demo will draw in more of the "serious" musicians and possibly ward off the rest of the weirdos once we start placing ads.

The mix....this is an incredibly dense piece. It is by far the most tracks I have ever worked with. After creating verb tracks etc..(thanks to auditions shitty bus system) I think im sitting with 36-37 tracks at 96khz/24bit. My computer is ready to blow up LOL. I would never have used 96 to begin with but the other guitarist started the session in 96 and had already tracked most of his portion. So I am having to mix the song in sections because I can't play it all back at once. Its a little weird. Anyhow, need some feedback on the bass level/balance/kick etc...always have trouble with that in my room.

Thanks in advance, hope you enjoy the track

Just awesome work...

I was flashing back on the eerie soundscape you guys created. How do you co-write something like that?

Mix-wise you won't get any gems from me. But that is a monster listen. Killer guitar work early in the 4th minute.

If you hook this thang up and do any work around town much, I'll be the old guy sitting about 30 ft back checkin it out man.
I'm no wizard on mixing, but I'm kinda familiar with that old wireneck sound. The bass/kick/snare triad seems balanced pretty good but aren`t punching like normal. It seems to me that you need a bit more mids on the bass, bring the kick up, and the snare especially could use just a bit more crisp snap, and gain.
Puttin a bit of gain on the three could do it without messin with the tone much, but the bass is a bit muffy to me.

Reminds me alot of the late, great, Mr. Schuldiner.

We both know the drums arent great in terms of fidelity.

But i wont knit that....youl be recording real ones later anyway.

Good job on the electric guits again!

I honestly don't know, its a rather weird situation. Our infuences/taste in metal are drastically different but somehow our playing styles seem to work together. The initial "idea" for the project was to take an almost "soundtrack" approach to the music.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Toki I thought the drums might be a little low. I think I was trying to avoid them taking up the whole mix but its kind of inevitable when they are doing nothing but the full on double bass/blast beats.
Live performance is definitely our main goal once this demo is ready. The material is alot of fun to play and its been nearly 2 years since I have been on stage. Are you near Atlanta? Thanks for the listen/comments.

Finster

thank you as always for the listen/comments. Death is certainly a big influence.

Good job on the electric guits again!

Thank you, we had a Dual Rectifier as well as a Mesa Nomad to use this time so it was ALOT easier haha.

Care to elaborate on the drums? We will be replacing but I need this demo to at least be passable for the next few months.

thanks again to everyone for the listen/comments.

The song sounds really cool although not my style. I can appreaciate good music even if I wouldnt listen to it if you know what I mean.
Cant comment much on the mix as I left my headphones at my mates so only got real shitty PC speakers with no lo end.
Lovely guitars. Drums seem a bit quiet.
Ha some ending! I suppose thats like the half way point or something.
Weird way to mix but sounds real good through my PC speakers.

Awesome song!
Guitars sound great.
I'll listen more carefully when I can leave work and listen on some good speakers, perhaps I can give some constructive feedback, but it sounds great to me so far!
Put out an album...I'd buy it ;)

awesome epic metal!!

bass seems a little too low for my tastes though, kick sounded okay, snare was a little light, all cymbals sound like crap as mp3's but yours are bedded well

(i just hate mp3's)

Wireneck, that was great, man. Nice sounds. I am stuck on a laptop right now, so no way I could even attempt to help, but you and several others have the ears for this already... :D
Just wanted to say, nice listen, and good luck with it.

Awesome epic metal!!!!

I listened on shitty speaks, so can't comment much on the mix, except as always--a little more bass guitar definition, if possible.

This shit is just huge (musically). I wish you good luck in putting this together as a band.

Thanks for sharing.

Since the drums are programmed I wouldn't mind it so much if they sounded that way. Im not sure if I am just too afraid of major EQ boost/cut or what but I just can't get the samples to have that sound. I suppose I could be boosting in the wrong places but I wasn't sucessful in my first attempt. If you have any pointers for the snare/kick I am open to suggestions. The samples are DKFH 2 btw...

Ha some ending! I suppose thats like the half way point or something.

Actually thats the real ending but as you guessed it runs right into another interlude/type thing that leads into the 2nd movement.

Thanks for listening.

Metalhead28 thanks for the listen and the support.

Seismetron thanks for the listen and the comments.

Dogman thanks as always.

Fenderville thanks, for listening.

Incanus thank you. Were doing our best to get this thing assembled.

I'm not sure if you dig the drum sounds I've been getting with DFHS, but I use some fairly extreme EQ to get a finished sound out of the samples. I know that DFH 2 uses the same samples as DFHS, so if you are interested in any info that I could offer just let me know.
......even though I wouldn't feel right giving you advice, haha ;) .

a clip of some crappy, unfinished music with DFHS

Hey Finster, just wondering how you triggered your samples for the PMC #12. Do you need special software to be able to trigger samples or is there a way to do it in recording software?

Metalhead28- I thought the drums sounded pretty good on the last thing you posted. If you want to post or Pm me some of the things you did with Eq on the snare, kick, toms, overheads whatever, thats cool, I will definitely give it a shot.

No problem!
I'll get some screenshots tonight and post them tommorrow.
I can tell you this much without looking though:
I doubled the kick track, on one track I boosted 90 Hz around 5 db, cut 300 Hz around -18 db and boosted a little at around 4 khz. On the second track I did a similar cut at 300 hz with a little wider "Q" and a big boost at around 4 Khz and 8 khz, I think around 6-9 db. I know I also did a high pass on the second track at around 50 or 60 hz and it is much lower in the mix.
.....I can't remember too well what I needed to do on the snare. I know I cut a little in the 500 hz range and boosted around 5 k and compressed it pretty well. Anyway, I'll post some screen shots tommorrow. I use elemental audio plug-ins and they have a nice graphical interface so they should be pretty easy to decipher!

Epic piece right here, vvvery cool! :D Only thing I noticed about the mixing is that the bass seemed a bit too low on my system. Otherwise, nice playing & rocking song!

Love the acoustic in there too... good intesnse song
