hi guys,

Can you listen to this mp3 and maybe shed some lite on why the two girls sound muffled. Somethings wrong I don't know what it is.

http://www.rbevins.com/music/mp3
the song is romancer.mp3

They are 8 and 9 year old girls. I have no choice but to record midi for them, the school can't afford real musicians. I know there are a couple places with distortion and the 75 kids at the end in the choir is too loud.

Oh yeah, they are singing in french....just to warn you so no surprises...

Thanks on advance

oops wrong mp3

sorry,

the song is quand.mp3

disregard romancer.mp3

By the way, nice song you got there.
I liked the single voice, and I Really liked when the vocal harmony came in for that short time.

I think you must have close miked this. I think cutting some bass frequencies will help remove some of the mud and adding some at 12 k as a rule will help add some air.

THe chorus there was very real, but I think a bit overdone.

Very tight song. who are the girls singing?. Is this a popular song or did you write it for the girls.

These are two girls in my wifes school. My wife teaches music. I did not write the song, it is a popular french artist. I got a mechanical liscence for 9 songs to do a cd for the school. I am doing it for free so the kids in the school can have a nice cd. It's too bad I have to settle with midi.

thanks for the info I wil try your suggestions.

Yowsa!

Did you say 8 and 9?! That's is SO cool. :D Nice voices for young ones. You don't generally see such control of vibrato in most kids.

I work with kids for a living so I can just imagine how excited they are to have such a cool recording. Its is fabulous that you are willing and able to do that for them!

Is there some stereo funkiness going on with that chorus at the end? Or is it just the volume that is taking me off guard? Something about it is almost shocking, distracting. It almost sounds warbley, though I can't tell why. A stereo effect?

Take care, and thanks again for careing about those kids!

Its probably because I compressed it too much, the chorus at the end that is. there is a little stereo effect on the chorus track. but the main problem is the volume. Just too agressive. too loud.

These girls are fun to work with. My wife is the music teacher in that school. The second girl to come in is 75% deaf. In three years the doctiors say she will won't be able to hear. the first girl the mother didn't even know she could sing like that. The mother cried when we recorded her. That alone was enough pay for me to do this for free. Besides the fact its not professional enough to rate getting payed for...:-)
