Don't know....

There was a commont about analog guys sticking together. Not really dissing us I don't think. But a few votes help. My plan is should I get it to take it apart and see if a few mods will make it better. Better caps and selected resistors. Plus a look at the powersupply options....

Of course analog guys stick together! We all suffer from sticky shed tape syndrome!

Thanks!

My plan is to take it and mod it to bring its performance to the next level. I think it would be a service to the community if we could buy an inexpensive preamp and have it come close to a $1000 preamp.

With a cookbook and parts list almost anyone could to the mods.

Now that would e something useful for the community.

I would never count my electrons before they are hatched - or something like that.

In any case The whole giveaway made me think of the things I have that I don't need and might be useful to someone.

When thhe dust dies down I'll post a free JL Cooper PPS-1 and an ART Phantom II for those who need them. And try to keep a low key about it.

Ive compared a Grace Designs 101 and a DMP3 side by side and I honestly could not hear any difference. I sent the Grace back and kept the DMP3.

The dmp-3 is really a nice pre. From all I can see the difference between quality pre's of any cost falls into 2 catagories. The first is "color". The second is of the "last 5%" type. Most people hear the color fairly easily and have a hard time with the last 5%.

But, the last 5% is real and useful (provided you are not listening to an Ipod with the car windows rolled down).

First thought is to draw a schematic of the DMP-3 then to evaluate the components. Then try a few passive component swaps. Next might involve a THAT1512 instrumentation amp subistution. Of course the PS will ne looked at. Lastly should I get bold I could install some cinemag or jensen transformers which will add some color....
