fostex x-55 PREAMPS (hmmm..)

my friend has a fostex x-55 (tape recording function on it is broken).

i told him to bring it over and i could try out the preamps on it, for use with (maybe) recording my drums...since everyone says analog is the way to go for drum kits correct? they would go through those preamps, and then straight to my Delta44.

basically...do you tihnk these preamps are better/worse in comparison to Behringer's 802A compact mixer?

I have an X-55 that I've used about 7 years, but have never tried recording drums on it. However, the pre- amps are pretty basic and I was never very happy with the sound I got micing acoustic instruments without an outboard mic pre-amp of some kind. I'm not familiar with the Behringer model you mention, but my guess is it's probably equal to, if not better than the pres on the X-55.
