I just bought a used Fostex VF160 16 track digital recorder and everything works fine except I can't get any sound to come out of the left side. I sample recorded some stuff and made sure the pan is set correctly but only the right monitor is producing any sound. On the screen of the recorder it is clearly sending sound to both the left and right speakers equally as I have the pan centered on all the tracks. When I plug in headphones I also only get sound from the right side and the left side is completely silent. I have noticed that when I turn the left monitor up really loud there is a faint sound of the recording but it is extremely quiet and definitely not working correctly. I have another Fostex 8-track and I use all the same monitors and cables and the sound comes out of both speakers just fine so it couldn't be something to do with the monitors or cables. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how it could be fixed?

Thanks
Alex

This doesn't sound so good....obviously.

Just as a wild chance, check your bus settings and make sure everything is normal.(I have a VF16 so It's a little different)

Other than that, unless there is a fuse for each side (there is on lots of stereo amps) it sounds like you may have to send it in.

Wish I could help further.

Good Luck.

Are you sure the recorded material has sound in both channels? Seems obvious but sometimes the obvious things cause the most hair loss.

The recorded material should have sound coming out of both channels because i have the pan set to the center and on the display there is sound coming out of both the left and right channels.

Actually, I believe I tested the RCA outputs and both the left and right were working but I'll try and test that again tonight to make sure.
