fostex vf-160cdr or korg d12...

which one should I get? Both cost $500. Right now I'm leaning towards the korg because of the drum patterns, mic and better effects but it doesn't have a burner. I am a solo musician and record one track at a time. I don't want to use my computer. what advantage do I get if I choose the fostex?

Fostex 160 = 16 tracks + 1 cd burner
Korg D12 = 12 tracks + 0 cd burner
I personally vote for the fostex because one can pick up an inexpensive drum machine for less than one can pick up a cd burner for the korg.

Gotta agree with A12S... on this. VF-160 CDR. The VF-160 is just more versatile. It's just as easy to record one track or eight tracks on it.

Since I got mine, I've been recording one track at a time for song samples. Next week, I'm going to be recording the entire band.

I forgot something. The guy selling the korg is including an mxl condenser mic and an art tube preamp. I have a plextor plexwriter 48/24/48 on my computer which is new but it's having a software problem. what about the built in mic for recording ideas? don't you need that?

Fostex multi-trackers are built like tanks, plus, as someone said, you can pick up a drum machine elsewhere. Personally, I have a bias towards recorders that essentially record and burn -- built in drum/bass patterns don't impress as much, nor do built-in mics. I wouldn't NOT buy one because it had a built-in mic, but I wouldn't NOT buy one because it didn't.

Not certain, but I think the "drums" on the Korg are similar to the canned patterns on the PXR4 - it's NOT a programmable drum machine. Again, not certain, but I'd check that out if drums are important. I've heard nothing but great things about the Fostex, and you have a great forum here for help, etc.

what about the mxl mic? wouldn't I be blowing a good deal? All I have now is a shure 10AM dynamic mic.
