Whether or not I really was a musician...

:p

You may still be wondering after hearing this!

This is the backing of a song that I haven't been back to for a while because I could not get the damned guitars in tune enough to mesh with a synth string arrangement. In any case, if you want to have a listen, I'd certainly appreciate any feedback!

Thanks,

MK

I'm on computer speakers at work but it sounded good.
Nice acoustic sound, I'd like to hear it panned to both sides in the beginning.

Thanks! That's my Taylor 310 => NTK => VLZ => RNC => VS-880EX.

I am somewhat unorthodox when it comes to panning. I could probably be persuaded to pan the Taylor into the middle for the first verse, and then split it off after the drums, bass, and electric come in.

Very nice and clean recording. I listened on headphones at work and didn't hear anything wrong with it.

I would say that you really are a musician. :)

Thanks for the listen.

I listened at work and got fired. My absence caused the company to fall behind and lose money. The monitary loss caused hundreds of people to be laid off. Those people were replaced by some sacred cow people overseas. Now how do you feel?

Payback's a bitch, ain't it?

:D

Thanks for the kind words, Vestast!

That was some pleasant listening. Clean too. I hope I can get my stuff that clean. Well done!

I think maybe the guitars intro should be panned a little toward center. Was that nylon string guitar in the back half? How'd you record it?

Thanks for giving the time to listen!

:)

Yeah, that was an old Yamaha nylon string I bought off a guy in the local paper for $120.00. I used a pre-set algorithm reverb ('cathedral,' I think) from my VS880EX on it. I used the chain described above on all of the guitars. The Taylor, about 7" away from the 12th fret; the Yamaha, about 12" away from the 12th fret, and the electric, about 10" from the amp cabinet. The Taylor has no reverb on it, if I remember correctly, and the electric has another internal VS effect inserted on it; 'Light Phase Shift,' I believe.

The bass, which was actually just a scratch track that ended up sounding not too bad, is a Yamaha bass, direct into the Mackie, then into the 880, with a 'compressed bass' algorithm inserted on it.

Anyways, thanks for listening. I have to decide if I am going to try to redo it, with the keyboards on first, and then tune to them. I think this will sound nice once it's done. I've got synth 'string quartet,' piano in the bridge, and about 6 vocal tracks to record as well. Oh, and the electric solos for the coda. It's one of my least complicated tunes, and therefore simple enough to ease my way back into the recording process without banging my head against the wall too much.

PS, the guitars are panned that way in anticipation of putting the strings in, in stereo, at ~11 and 1:00.
