i'm going crazy here, i just got a cd burner and the first thing i wanted to do is make an audio cd of how i have been wasting the last two yrs. I have various rec. programs but i record only on my yamaha analog 8 trk...Q: how do i get these recordings from the recorder to computer to burner and still be able to pop it in the stereo?

What soundcard are you using? If it's a decent one, run a line from the 8-track into your computer soundcard, and record it if the software you're using is multitrack.

Then, using the software again, create a stereo mix which is 16-bit, 44.1 kHz. Now it's ready to be burned to CD.

Use the program that came with your CD burner to access the 16-bit, 44.1 kHz files on your computer and burn the CD.

That's the general outline. There'll be loads of details you'll have to sort out along the way, though. Good luck.
