Do you care about "fooling" people into thinking you went to a "real studio?"

  • Yes. I want people to think I rented studio time.

the situations you mention (head bops, eyes welling, skin crawling) just don't happen that often for me, at least listening to the radio - a song has to be truly exceptional. 90% of the stuff I listen to while driving around town (which is where I do a lot of listening) is "just OK." When something's just OK, it's not so much of a distraction to pay attention to the guitar tone, or the mix, or whatever.
That's a good point. The state of radio these days is absolutely awful. Even here in the Chicago area things have gotten pretty dismal for those that have fairly eclectic tastes in music; I have gotten to the point where the only time I listen to music radio in the car anymore is when I happen to be within range of either one of the local low watt college stations out of the western suburbs, an even lower wattage AM jazz station our of the southern suburbs, or when "American Routes" is playing on NPR on Saturday night. Otherwise it's pretty much news radio for me. For the radio situation in a big town like this to be that dismal is just plain disgusting.

One of these days I gotta get off my ass and rig a setup in the car to listen to some internet radio simulcasts via a cell network. There's still some great stations from around the world to be found on the net - as long as you don't mind listening in mono .

Nah, I'm one of those guys that actually uses his cell phone for making and receiving phone calls. And that's *if* I decide to take it with me. The day I have to start carrying a computer around with me everywhere I go is the day I figure I had better either simplify my life or put a bullet in my head.

I think I just gotta rip some programming at home and make myself some CD-Rs to play in the car.

I just want stuff I'm involved with to sound as good as I can make it sound. And then I want to learn why it didn't sound better than that. As far as "professional" - I guess I don't have time in my life to worry about that stuff.
