Food Court Manager

Oh and heatman - I actually have another tracking of Spider-Man done with new guitars. I'm just too embarrassed to put it up again.

I really like that Spiderman tune. It's great. I think I heard Steve McQueen once but then I couldn't find it after that. Is that one still around to listen to?

Thought is was really good, also gave me a good laugh on a really crappy day. Thanks

Mr. Clean - I pulled down the Steve McQueen tune. Some day I plan to (you guessed it) retrack the guitar. I'll dig out the old mix and put it up if you'd like.

Atkron - glad I gave you a laugh. Thanks for checking it out.

Yes please do, I would like to hear it again :thumbs up:

Could you write out the lyrics? There are a few things I'm just not able to pick up ... and I kind of want to cover it (if you wouldn't mind).

Here you go propman. And I don't mind if you want to cover it. That'd be cool.

Don't think I'm crazy, but it's my life's call
To help feed the hungry at the shopping mall
At a neon heaven in the middle of hell
In a place that whets your appetite despite the smell
We got mystery meat cooked in a vat
And no matter what, you can get fries with that
I don't own no stocks or any private planes
I blow all my money on Xbox games
My head's an empty little shell of a cartridge
And I'm two-hundred and forty pounds of Danny Partridge
CHORUS

I'm the food court manager, don't cross me
You need my permission if you want to take a pee
Remember that I hold the only bathroom key
And this polyester-clad dude's really kinda mean

Time to open shop and put the ball in play
I like a nice corn-dog to start my day
Next I think I'll loiter 'round the workers stations
And yell at the employees right in front of the patrons
So suck it up and be nice to me
Remember you're a dining room refugee
I memorized the menus, but that's just a start
I know every Monty Python show by heart
And contradictory to the things we say on the street
Our orange soda doesn't have Vitamin C (but it'll rot your teeth)

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Now this wretched job is my life you see
And John Stuart Mill ain't got a use for me
I'm drowning in a sunflower oil slick
I heard the Health Department has a bone to pick

Now I may have grown into the guy that you never knew
No matter how pathetic I'm human too
So do yourself a favor, spend some time with the boss
You see we all have lines we're willing to cross
Now I've been screamed at and I've been maced
But I'm just trying to sell food that's sodium laced
And if you don't like our rules or our bathroom locks
Just kindly drop a note in our suggestion box
Because I don't take no crap or anything of the sort
There ain't no question who runs this court (I run this court)
CHORUS
I'm the food court manager nice don't matter
Long as I got the key and you got a bladder
I'm the food court manager this is what it is
Ya see, I got the key and you gotta whiz uh oh

Thanks! And I'm definately going to cover this at some point. Now that I have the lyrics in front of me, my suspicions that this was an all-around awesome song have turned out to be true. I really like it and you did a great job! (Writing from personal experience?)

The line that had be flummoxed was "polyester clad-dude..." I thought it was either "polyester track suit's really kind of neat" or "polyester-clad food's..." The former makes more sense than the later but I was still off by a pretty big chunk.

Thanks again. I like the "polyester track suit's really kind of neat" version. :)

heatman - I have a fairly big catalog. I just keep recording it badly - so I don't get to much of it. But I'm slowly reaching the point where I'm getting passable mixes. So maybe I can get to some other stuff. I'll check the toms and vocal compression tonight. Thanks man.

I was surprised to read you posting this trip-you're normally pretty perceptive in what needs addressing in other people's mixes on here, so I always assume you've got your shit together on your own stuff. What I've heard from you on here always has an accomplished sheen too.

Did you take down mix 2? In the absence of that I listened to the first one and don't have anything further to add other than what others have said and what has probably already been superceded by the update. Catchy tune, lead guitar tone is cool and I like the melody, especially that of the first line of each verse.

Rob's right. I think you're way too hard on yourself. Just get your stuff out there. I have tons of songs that I've written and have the same excuse for not putting them out; it's not good enough. People have been telling me for a long time that they were just fine so I've been trying to just tweak a couple of things and put them out without second-guessing so much. Your stuff is good.

Thanks to the three of you. I appreciate it. OK I'll start doing some new stuff. By coincidence, Greg is doing drums for a song of mine you've never heard before. I'm going to track my final guitars on it and I'll put it up. Stay tuned.

Oh and rob - what is up there right now is actually mix #3. It's the final mix so I stopped numbering them. :)

It's pretty close to mix #2, I compressed the vocal just a bit harder per heatmiser's suggestion and did a small fader ride on the electric guitar. I didn't bump the thread because the changes were so minor. But since it's bumped... :)

Great song MMM, although I feel it would have more impact if you condensed it to 3.5 minutes rather than 5. It has a 3.5 minute vibe. The lead vocal is mixed a bit low in places and could occasionally benefit from a slightly more hammy and sarcastic tone to emphasise the point of the song.

Thanks Tobe. Let me give the lead vocal one more listen. I appreciate the help.

Good, good, good.
Did I say good?
Yeah, it's good - the power of the key keeper!

Listening on earbuds to the first mix. Pretty slick. I'd be playing with ways to double and muscle up the vocal when it's singing solo. Layers. Adding some 100 Hz. Maybe a touch of distortion. Delay. I'd be trying out all sorts of stuff to give it more weight and space. Nice tune.

rayc and dobro - thank you both for checking it out and offering thoughts. I appreciate it.
