anyone have any information or any rumors about the next thing?

I want to move into protools...but, I have an Aardvark Q10...too comperable to Digi001.

When do you think their next thing will come out? Hopefully have some cool new features...

I'd gladly trade in the Q10 for the next thing Digi had to offer...

rumors people, i need rumors..

why do you want to go to pro tools? get nuendo, or cubase SX in a month...cubase SX is gonna be the BEST software to use for a long time...or at least til Nuendo 2 comes out later this year :) pro tools kinda sucks...

Wes, there is your rumor... :)

haha, the ultimate rumor. yes, I so love the Pro Tools sucks people.

Such an educated and objective opinion ;)

Cubase SX does sound cool though.

Lets all sell our Pro Tools, and get Cubase

Lets get rid of our U47's and get SP C1's

There are only 3 truly "Pro" Daws out there, and those are Pro Tools, Logic, and Digital performer.... The "others" are all just down at the Project studio /hobbyist level.

Theres a rumour for ya :)

Digi 001 might be stripped down, but It's still basically the same software as the "big" PT....It's lacking the Post, and surround shit, and the 100 tracks.... but other than that, it's pretty much the same as the big one...

true vox.

except that I consider Cubase SX and Logic 5 to be the same animal...

Also, the big difference to me with "big PT" would be the massive processing power (guess that falls into 100 tracks).

Could you add a 192 I/O to a Digi001 system?

That'd be a pretty cool setup....

Nuendo is Pro.... Add it to the list and Sequoia while your at it... Jeesh-o-rama, if your gonna start rumors...

I don't normally consider software the limiting factor when it comes to what is "pro".

I don't think ProTools has the most amazing software...

but I do think they have amazing hardware/interface. PT is the total system that I want eventually...so, i want to get into it now.

Hence - I need some rumors about new Digi Product! :)

Rumours are rumours... opinion is opinion. truth is truth. ;)

Wes, I was talking software, not interface.... And to address your "power" mention.... All that processing power is due to the computer, it's not even in Pro Tools...

Name me one World Class Studio that exclusively uses Cubase, or Nuendo for Tracking... Maybe in a back room for midi sequencing or other things....But I have yet to hear of a world class Cubase or Nuendo based studio...

If you can name it, thats fine.. But Pro tools is still in leadership :)

(Im not talking the local Pro Studio in your City, Im talking world class, Ocean Way, The Record Plant, South Beach, Metalworks)...

I was refferring to the DSP cards. Or, like the HD3 Core system...with additional cards..etc. The Pro Tools hardware.

I consider the hardware aspect of "big" protools to be the separating factor. no one else offers that.

Software is software, in a way.

Very true... But man, do I love Pro Tools for software.... I was at a local pro studio and he has the Big TDM system, and I hopped on it and was blown away... it's just like my digi... only on a bigger scale.... I knew how to do everything in it.....

yep vox, that's the beauty of the 001.

It gives us home guys the ability to learn the ins and outs of a sysytem we can't afford - while getting great results at the same time (on a home level).

then you go play with the big boys and there is very little learning curve.

and *thats* why i want it pro tools sucks boy ;)

Wes480,

I guess the rumor I am hoping for is some sort of Firewire solution...he Mbox is cool, but I wanted Firewire.

The other rumor is XP support "sometime in May" and OSX sometime...

I don't care much about XP support as I am happy with my AMIII on 98 and my Digi001 on my Mac. But, Firewire with my laptop would be the ultimate for me at this point.

Your points about be able to function effectively in any pro studio after having learned the basics on a 001 system is dead on and the BEST reason to stick with PT, in my opinion.

Later,
C

Pro tools is only alright. i've worked on a full TDM and even its not GREAT...a lot of ppl just use it though...i know someone that just ordered the new pro tools HD...spent around $30G's maybe more... so i'll see how his studio comes out with and maybe i'll change my mind on pro tools...

Pro tools, logic and DP3...lol
Logic is sh!t...logic can't hang with nuendo and sequoia/samplitude...its right on with cubase vst32 5.1

Dp3 is alright still not in the same class as Nuendo and Cubase SX(which just started shipping)
Cubase Sx is better than Nuendo...

i guess when it comes down to it its all about what YOU prefer...i prefer Nuendo over anything out right now...logic 5..its ok, but nothing great..i have it..so i can say that...

i guess we all have our own opinions...i didn't want to start a flame war..but anything you can do with the all mighty pro tools i can do with nuendo...

"but anything you can do with the all mighty pro tools i can do with nuendo..."

yes and no. You won't be able to get the sound quality that your friends 30g system is going to have - without spending an equal amount of money on stuff that will work with nuendo.

And, when you do that, your interface won't be as seemless as protools.

Don't you realize the processing power that a 30g PT system gives you? Its much different than a top of the line Athlon running Nuendo.

<sigh>

Like I said, this isn't about software. It's about full system integration. Thats where everything is going...and where digidesign has everyone beat for the time being.

You want some rumors?
------------------------------
Firewire for the 002.
The next major release of Pro Tools will be Windows XP/Mac OS X only.

You want some truth?
----------------------------
Pro Tools has the best plugins, period. No other platform has McDSP plugins. No other platofmr has the Sony Oxford eq. No other platform has the Access Virus softsynth. Bombfactory plugins are only on Pro Tools and MAS.

The 192 I/O sounds better than any other A/D-D/A out there.

Pros are using Nuendo for mastering, but not much else.

Charger - Can you use the 192IO with any system?

Or do you have to have PTHD?

Like, say you had a Digi001 - could you use it with that?

I have an Aardvark card...I assume I could use a 192IO with it....just run digital into my Aardvark card from it.

Neat idea...cause the thing isn't all that expensive...4 grand...

About the same as most Apogee stuff, right? What converters does it use btw? I could never tell.

IMO I think Pro Tools has become more of a fashion statement, than anything. I'm sure the new 30 grand (or more) HD system would rock, but give me 30 grand and I can put together a BETTER system for ME, that will sound just as good as PT, base around Nuendo, Wavelab, Cubase SX. Though the mixing controllers are bad ass.

Just tried out Cubase SX and its on some Nuendo type shit, though that's a good thing.
