Theres a question that i have for a long time so i hope someone can answer me...

How much foam do i need in my booth room for the best posible accoustic (absorbtion) recording hip hop, r'n'b vocals. I've see booths full of foam and i see booths with a lot of bear walls. I even notice some of booths use different cind of foam. I know different foams absorb different sounds specter too, but how can u know what cind of form and how much of it u should use?

Thx

The easy way...listen. A room full of highly absorbent foam would likely be too dead. Less absorbent foam might indeed require entire coverage. Unlike isolation, where you can't have enough, absorbtion is a matter of wanting just enough. If your booth room is small you may decide that you do not want to hear the room at all.

The scientific way...test. Put a test omni (like the ecm8000) at the test location, Add a speaker (or use your existing speakers if a control room) and then either use pink noise or run an increasing scale of pure tones at a constant volume up the range and see what levels come back.

Have a look at the Acoustics FAQ, second in the list on my Articles page:

www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html

It will answer a lot of your questions, plus many others you haven't yet thought to ask! :D
