flying with microphones etc

I going to be flying somewhere taking the following audio equipment:

tube mic pre (Behringer MIC100)
dynamic microphone (Shure SM57)
condenser microphone (Studio Projects B1)


Do these need to be kept in carry-on or can they go in baggage (in
terms of environmental damage - temperature, pressure)?

I'd carry them on. I wouldn't trust airport baggage workers to "take care" of your things. But that's just me.

A couple of years ago a business associate was foolish enough to put his $800 Nikon camera in his check-on luggage and fly into Miami airport--- guess what didn't make it to the baggage claim????? They bust whole shifts of baggage loaders several times a year at the Miami airport in sting operations.

NEVER EVER put anything of value in a check-in bag!

Carry it with you if you can (you may have to get it approved ahead of time by the airline-- call them and talk to them! You may have to go through an extra hand-check in the security office ahead of time, but you'll get on the plane.) or ship it overnight via Fedex, etc and have it INSURED! At least if they lose it you'll have the insurance money.
