does any body know if the body of a les paul is thick enough to house a Floyd rose (Ibanez) tremolo + 2 humbuckers and a jazz pickup (at neck)

I don't know the requirements for a floyd, but considering that an LP is about the thickest solidbody you're likely to run across, I'd say yes. But I would think it's probably too thick, isn't it? Do you have to have access from the back for a floyd? If it's all top-mounted, I guess you could do it. Most LPs with trems I've seen are Bigsby's. I think Rondo's got an LP copy with a floyd-like trem, don't know if it's a real floyd though.

but not a real LP.

They've got a pretty good rep for quality, but it's not the real thing.

Good heavens! I've become the APL of Rondo!

:D

I've heard they are selling the store in New Jersey and will be selling solely on the internet very soon. And yes I agree, I would rout out an Agile Les Paul for that but never a Gibson!!!

I didnt say I'd do it, I just said if anything could take it, an LP should.

Heck, I'd be afraid to change tuners on a real one. I'm pretty much a chicken when it comes to that kind of stuff. :o

darn, I was hoping this was an original idia... oh well the other mods will keep it original. yeah, i am gonna rout it out to open the back. and it will likly be a clone (i'm gonna grab the cheepest one i can find) becouse I'll probably change evry part to mach my personal taste. is it possible to put an SG neck on a paul? or is it the same neck?

Well...thats a glued in neck on a Les Paul and SGs-its not like a bolt-on situation. Not something to attempt!

damn. curse the one who invented set necks... well the one I'm looking at is a verry cheap clone... I'll check if it's a set or bolt on.... cheers for the info!

Yes, it will work, but it is a bit tricky to get everything lined up just right. It's probably best to have it done by a professional.

what a friggin sacriledge...

To rape a manly instrument like a Les Paul with a wank-o-matic like that.. :( :( :( :(
.....just a damn shame.

Maybe I could take on a Les Paul Menace and spray it pink?..
..or a good old sunburst, and goth-spray it to black matte..
And just to make sure of the kill, switch the mahogany body to plexiglass??.. :D :D

Sarcasm not allowed.. I'm sorry.
..Could..not..resist.. :D

I played with a guitarist years back who had a Floyd Rose installed in his LP. Worked just fine. :)

Gibson already has one with a Floyd. Plus a sustainer!!

Damn!! that was another one of my idea's to put on!!! Curse THEM!!! CURSE THEM ALL!!  oh and Jouni my idia was to paint it matt Black, but with a spray brushed lucifer face on it too.

That would be a really not good thing to do. Like someone above posted - it'd be like ass raping the Lester.

So far, the only idea I've heard that hasn't been done already is a plexi LP, which I, for one, would frickin' love.

And to the OP, if you get an LP (or clone) with the 60's slim taper neck, that will be much closer to the SG in terms of feel than the 50's neck.

What he wants to do is no different than guys hot-rodding old classic cars. I'm sure there are guys who see the chopped and lowered cars from the 30s, 40s, & 50s and wonder how they could have done that to an original classic.

I'm getting a Bigsby B5 put on an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90. If I currently had the greenbacks enough to go for that Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Studio w/Floyd Rose, I'd be jumping on it, with the intention of swapping Gibson P94 single coils in place of the humbuckers. I'll end up having to save "a few" extra greenbacks, however, as I've decided I'll get a Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cutaway (P90 equipped), and get a Bigsby B5 put on that one. I already priced the Gibson Les Pauls already having a Bigsby...sticker shock. :p

Now that sounds pretty cool, the DC with a Bigsby.

YOu would have to rought a lot less wood if you went with a Kahler trem. I've always liked them better than Floyds for a number of reasons. Routing away half the body of a les paul just seems like a bad idea. A good amount of the sound of a les paul comes from the 20 pounds of wood it's made out of. Routing a hole through it and adding a cavity in the back for the springs is bound to affect the tone.
