fix your strap buttons?

They don't require any modification and they solve the "leverage" problem I've had with the schaller and metal dunlop locks. The problem with the other locks is that they put the strap hovering 1/4" away from the body. That tiny bit of leverage starts wiggling the screw. When you use the plastic locks, your strap is right against the guitar and you have almost no leverage to start to wiggle the screw.

It seems like a small difference, but since I swapped over to the cheap plastic locks, I haven't had a strap button come loose on me.

Yeah. I visited friends in Minneapolis a year or so ago, and they had these on their guitars. I couldn't find any, back here, so I asked them to buy me a few, and mail em to me. Great little product, but I HAVE had them come apart on me, since each one is of a 2-piece construction. Would be better if they made them out of metal.

It depends on what you mean by "temporary". One of my toothpick repair jobs has lasted for 20 years so far. ;^)

What I do is stick a toothpick in as far as it will go and break it off flush. Then I stick the pointy end of another toothpick in the hole next to the first one and tap it in with a hammer, and then break it off flush. I keep doing that until no reasonable amount of pounding can get any more toothpicks into the hole. I don't use any glue. If it does turn out to be temporary, it's no big deal; I can redo it in about a minute. I will never touch my '61 Strat with a drill.

I use Schaler straplocks as well on four guitars and three basses. Design/brand preferences vary, but the security you get with any good straplock system is well worth the effort and expense. One point - if you have more than one instrument that you use, I recommend you get the same style straplocks for them all so that your straps will be interchangeable.
 
Ok... that's a pretty hardcore toothpick trick. :)
 
hey bagel boy.. this is berserker from the atari forums. interesting to see you here. got your own project or something?
 
I've been playing guitar longer than I've made video games. :)

I had a band since I was 14... but only till I was about 21. Since then I've just been writing and recording on my own.
