Sounds exactly like a hair metal recording should sound...If that's the worst you got, you deserve to be staked down over an anthill. Nice.

dude...its a bit unpolished but it doesnt sound bad at all

you fuckers are all nipping down to your local studios and pretending to sound bad huh??

lol :D

Geesh! :eek:Tough crowd. Thanks, I think. Well, to be fair, that was not a 'home' recording, but it is old. Don't make me pull out the 4-track, on the floor of a cockroach infested apartment, instrumental crap from like '89! :D

Kcearl - WTF?! Where did this come from? This tune is great! (I never heard of Party Fears though):D It's like Roy Orbison's tour bus crash landed from outer space after colliding with the Mama's and the Papa's! The cymbals are freakin' awesome! :drunk::drunk:;):D I gotta hear more of THIS side of you buddy!

rayc - Wow, that sounds old! You can hear the tape warble! Love it!

robgreen - Is that an accordion? Wooeee! Who can say they've done that? I think this is Jim Morrison's first demo tape that you called your own. Pretty cool man

I'll be back to listen to some more later - Thanks all for sharing :D

Lol. WTF do the black eyed peas have to do with anything?

Ha! I was listening to a bunch of stuff from this thread a little while ago (still nothing as bad as I'd hoped) and when Miserlou came on my 11 yr old daughter immediately perked up..."Daddy! Is this the Black Eyed Peas?". "No, it's just Greg..." :p "Oh...." she says, slumping back into her chair...

yir nuts..the guitars weaker than bud lite, the singing has more bumb notes than a vagrant orchestra but the cymbals?? they are pure excellence lol

gawd knows what i did to them to make them sound so bad...all i know is that the first version i posted was compressed to hell...this one had much of the effects taken off and was a massive improvement...then my hard drive committed suicide :)

all my early songs were guitar and synth pop numbers...I really enjoyed making them but one track would take a month!..the drums would take over a week just to programme and Id start it 6am and finish at midnight..man I really loved learning about recording...what a keen little bugger i was then lol :D

This was done on a 4-track right before I found this place. Then I think I messed with it in the computer. I think this is the first recording I ever did partially in the box, because that's the only thing that explains having "drums" on it.

The little kid that sounds like Michael Jackson in the background is my daughter, and she was 11, I think. So about 10 years ago...I didn't even own a bass, so I don't know where the low end came from on this. The really bad stuff is on cassettes, and I don't have a deck anymore, so those won't make it into this thread...but they're fucking awful, so I'm sorry I can't make that happen.

Bottle Of Wine

I love this! I like how you have your 11 year old singing with you about getting wasted and drinking wine! I can top that though...a story about our 6 year old, school, and my mommy and wine in a sentence. My wife was proud, especially cuz she's a teacher at that school. Anyway, I digress...I love wine don't you? Mmmm wine......:) Oh yea, the tune, I like it, but it's not old and crappy enough apparently for this thread. :D:drunk::D:cool:

ok...complete with bad drum machine and what can only be described as a "compressing the hell out of the reverb" style of engineering, I bring you 1998.

Volkswagen Bus

Ahhh...now that's much better! I can hear either the tape crying out for mercy or the compressor ratio knob twisted till it busted off! Damn, I'm lovin' your songs though! I'm diggin' this John Denver vibe, except with a little under-aged drinking and driving mixed in :drunk:;):D. Yeehaaw!

Okay, found some on a harddrive.

These were done 97-98-ish. I don't really remeber the details. My first attempts at multitracking as a solo performer in the digital realm in my buddies garage. No click tracks, one microphone, terrible sounds, no vocals, too much reverb. Enjoy. :)

Sleepwalk

Sabre Dance

That's some crazy stuff! How deep can reverb reverberate? The answer is in here. Who even thinks about covering these tunes? Greg, of course. Funny, how it still sounds better than most of my current stuff.
:D:cool:

Just found this thread - you guys rock, this stuff is way better than anything I'm doing now - just shows it's not all the shiny gear it's what you do with it... Kc - I was speaking to someone last week who reckoned they knew Billy Mackenzie - he was a freakin god!

yeah..tragedy what happened to him, Alan Rankine teaches music at Glasgow University now...

well done for keeping them for so long..Howling Dogs is pure 80s pop, but forgotten sounds a good recording, especially considering its 19 years old..

great stuff man..I enjoyed listening to them...well still listening to forgotten :)

Thanks a lot mate, I'll settle for Jim Morrison's first demo tape :D

Much as I'd love to reap the kudos for featuring an accordian on my first tune, I have to confess that it's a melodica on there. I now really want an accordian though!

Had a listen to yours and thought it sounded fine to me - then I listened to one of your more recent songs straight after and the difference was huge. You got a great sound now.
