Thanks for listening heatmiser and KC - may resurrect and retrack at some point in the future.

Haven't heard anything embarrassing on here yet, depite what some may think of their efforts looking back.

oh, boy... My whole foray into recording produced some .... uhh.... Yeah. I've got one, for sure. I'll have to see if I can dig it up tomorrow. Waaaay back before I thought recording my own drums was even possible.

Great topic, Keith.

I do have a really embarrassing 4 track recording I did in the mid 80's I'm prepared to exppose. I'll have to find it but will post it as soon as I do.
Rob, a good song indeed - sounds like you recorded with effects & got stuck with them - that was a common prob for me in 4 track cassette land.
kc - that's a good cover & yep, the guitars cut through well. In fact it's a bloody good cover. It has a little bit of Joy D in there amongst other bits. I like it!
Hood, fine stuff actually - demonstrates a need to come to grips with some of the finer points of recording bass but nothing to be embarrassed about.

This is an awesome thread. I thought of making one like this a while back and it was going to be called Before and after HR, but this is exactly what I was thinking KC. I guess great minds think alot... like KC. :D I will contribute to this "if" I ever get the song I first posted finished. Lol.

Hell, I might post it without the lyrics just for shits and giggles, but that is pretty much what all my stuff has been so far!!! :drunk:

Been fun listening to what is here now though.

these arent bad at all for first songs...this is quite dissapointing, i was expecting some real bad stuff

I had tracks from the eighties done on a fostex four track but theyve long gone...shame as 14 versions of Night Train are something to behold

yes we do :D

Haha thanks ;) - Looking at my msg thinking it's pretty cliché..

Alright.... *hanging head in shame* Here it is. It's called Happy. It's not an mp3. It's an ogg. The Chrome browser can play it, if it gives ya problems.

fuck me the beginning sounds like Roddy Frame or something

this is the stuff Im talking about...its not bad recorded or mixed mate..but :D

brilliant lol

Thanks, but you must be living in some alternate universe or something. The song is terrible, and it sounds like it was well recorded because nothing was recorded! 100% of that came out of my Roland RS-9 keyboard (except vocals, of course, which suck badly).

hehe... Thanks for the thread, mate!

PI, given the set up you've just explained this is excellent - the distorted guitar kline had me fooled. It drops off a little as you fill up the arrangement - the breakdown - literal it would appear - hmm - it was smile worthy.

I thought we were going to hear some dirty laundry. Shit, this is typical clinic material. Didn't any of you guys start from scratch?

OK, I won't lie and say this is my first recording, because my first recordings were on a Fostex 4 track years ago and I don't have any of them. But this is when I first got a TASCAM 788 8 track. Dig the box-y sounding drums. I can't listen to this all the way through. I tried.

Holy shit, the file says April 25 2001. Exactly 10 years ago to the day. That just freaked me out.

EDIT: No, I read that wrong. It said April 25 2011. Today's date, in the "Date Modified". In "Properties", it tells me it was up-loaded on Sept. 21 2004. 7 years ago. That makes more sense. I just got my 788 around then.

Okay, found some on a harddrive.

These were done 97-98-ish. I don't really remeber the details. My first attempts at multitracking as a solo performer in the digital realm in my buddies garage. No click tracks, one microphone, terrible sounds, no vocals, too much reverb. Enjoy. :)

Sleepwalk

Sabre Dance

Thanks Rayc. Yeah, you're absolutely right - it was done on my 4 track in the pre-DAW days, so not only was I stuck with the effects, but with bouncing it all onto two tracks, I was stuck with all the levels. 4 tracks really make you think about every decision...

fair enough its nowhere near the quality of the stuff you do now...but its far from bad, just a little unpolished sounding...and still has that Rami sound

I know this song. :D

Really? You remember this? It's on my first so-called "CD", but it's the first tune I recorded and kept with my 788. I remember bringing it into the computer and into some "Wave Editor", probably Audacity, just to be able to flange the whole mix in that middle part. I wish I could find some older stuff, but I don't really keep anything I do after a while.
