Hey guys and girls.

Im thinking about injecting myself into the world of home recording. Ive written a few songs with friends, etc and would like to ultimately record them.

My friend owns a Zoom MRS-8 although i would like something more computer based. I just feel more at home on a computer instead of a bunch of hardware.

I have an electric guitar, acoustic guitar and a yamaha portable grand keyboard.

Just wondering if anybody could suggest a nice portable audio interface that has midi? Im not looking for something as big as the firepod as i wont be recording drums live. Something a bit more compact (2 mic connections). From what i have read Cubase seems to be the way to go with sofware. Everything online seems to be rnb / hip hop based. :)

Thanks for any help guys.

I use the M-Audio 24/96 sound card. 2 analog inputs (can record from 2 mics at a time) with one MIDI port. Although my MIDI keyboard uses USB so I don't use the MIDI port.

Also, if you want more inputs in the future you can just buy another one and link the 2 together.

However, for each of the 2 mics you'll need a preamp. You can get a 2 channel preamp like the M-Audio DMP3 (which is what I use) for your mics. It's a very clean preamp with no noise that I can hear even at high gain.

The total for both would equal about $250.

Hey danny.guitar.

Thanks for the feedback. Its good to listen to somebody talk from experience then reading a bunch of reviews on the net that basically say the same.

Id like my audio interface to be portable. So i can use it with my laptop.

What do you think of the M-AUDIO FIREWIRE 410?

Thanks.
