first time micing drums,help!

here is my set-up,tama starclassic birch set(12 tom, 14 tom, 22 bass, 14 snare ,3 crashes,2 splash,ride and a china).doing alot of research ,here is the mics i got(audio technica atm 25 for bass,shure 57 for snare-hi-hat,a audio technica pro 25 for each tom,2 marshall mxl 603s for overheads).i run them all into my friends mackie ctx 16 board.so far not to bad sounding,need to play with them more.just looking for any and all advice for placement,effects,mixers ect.i know there is no substitute for experiance so plz any advice is welcomed!thanks!Jason

Sounds like you are on the right track. Just try different placements of the overheads. Find out what you like.

It doesn't sound like you need any help. Those are all excellent choices. If you don't like the color and character of a particular mic then you need to play with your board eq levels or move the mics, pad, bass cut, etc. You mics are some of the textbook correct choices.

Think about a up-grade to better clean pre-amps in the future, or maybe this will work well for you. Good luck.

Blue Bear is a Pro and will not accept anything that isn't "top quality" so I'd follow his advice first. That kind of quality not only comes with skill and experience, but also at a price.

What I and most others here will give you is "meatball" "kitchen sink" type of advice to make do with what you've got.

There's no arguing with that sound, that sample track had a "killer" sound to it even over my cheap computer speakers.
