hey guys i want to get NEAR-FIELD MONITORS and i don`t have to much money to spend on them only about $500 ..
I was wondering if anybody can help me choose them...
I am going to mix TEChNo/TRANCE/HOUSE music....
any suggestions?? thank you!!

Hey Bruce,

I know you hate Alesis monitors, but I never saw a Mr Q "My Behr. mixer sucks ass because..." story. I personally never liked the ones or the two's, but I have been hearing decent talk of the point sevens. Have you any experience with these? Or is it that all Alesis mons suck badly by design? Just curious.

Thanks,
Pete

Let me clarify...

...I've heard a number of Alesis monitors and every one always sounds to me like your typical home stereo speaker.

Mids sucked out, overbright, and thin in the low end.

For some, they may be able to work with it... which is fine... but to me, it sounds like Alesis is designing home stereo speakers and mounting the drivers horizontally, then calling them "nearfield!"

I bought StudioPhile sp 5b about a week ago.
Theese are really cheap, but they're definitly worth the money.
When bought theese, I brought a cd (royce 5"9) and
listened to it at several different monitors (at the same price
and above). And I was very impressed with the way studiophile
was sounding.

They went really deep at the bottum, played very loud and
clear, and linear and accurate.

If you have a small project studio, I don't see any point with
buying bigger monitors.

I have improved my mixed alot by buying theese (no doubt)

But you should probably bring a cd (that you have played on
different systems) and listen to this on the monitors you can
afford at you local store. We all have different taste :)

Alesis monitor ones do have charictaristics that make them a little bassy so you compensate by cutting bass. throws stuff off a little but they do make fine stereo speakers.

I was lucky enough to aquire NS10s,before they all dissapeared.

hmm

Ive heard those top of the line Mackies are incredibly good and i should never consider anything else... but i can't really afford them. ANd ive heard the Event 20/20s are good, but if i get them, what kind of amp should i get. And what about the cheaper modle of the mackies?

Ambi

The big Mackies (HR824) are seen for $1100 a pair. The smaller ones (HR624) still would cost ya $900. Fuck the difference. Buy the big ones.
Oh, and here's another vote AGAINST the Alesis Monitor Ones. Scooped mids, ugly highs. I tested them. Liked the cheaper Behringer Truths WAY more. The Behringers also have a beefed-up hi-fi speaker thang goin' on, but the Behringer mid is far better than that of the Alesis shit.

I like the 20/20's a lot. I have the powerd version but I dont think they can be much different.

I'd go used for a power amp. Frankly, those Mackie power amps are nice. The small one should do it. I've heard things about the small Haflers but I dont know much. Sorry.
