so would it be safe to say that if i just went into the store and blew through the fabrics that would be a sufficient test? i am thinking since burlap is a widely received material that i will just blow through that and see what type of resistance it gives and then try and match that or less on another fabric. the other problem i had, aside from the price, was that the colours of the burlap were terrible. they had only some weird greens and and one that was sort of a dirty black (like a used potato sac look). anyways i think i will go back tomorrow and test this theory out and try and get some cheaper fabric. if anyone else has any advice on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.

i can just picture the look on the face of a material shop assistant as the watch someone picking up fabric and blowing through it... hahaha
sorry... not helpful, just thought it kinda amusing.
i actually have never heard of the blowing through fabric test... i wonder if that's why underwear is such a tight knit material...

One thing I was told was to stay away from shinny fabric. The lady at the walmart fabric counter also told me the shinny fabric was treated with a chemical to help bind the fibers of the fabric together as well as make it shinny. So I opted to stay away from this kind of fabric. I also got most of my fabric for $1.00 a yard while spending $3.00 a yard on a few yards of some red fabric to bring some color into the place. Most of my outer fabric is black or grey. It all looks nice together and the sound is so much better now.

well i went to walmart today and found some fabric that i liked and is "airy" and most of all, is cheap. it was rather interesting trying to walk around with fabrics and sneak in a little test. i am pretty sure the girl at the counter thought i was a moron with some very strange tendencies but for a good sounding room i will do most anything, haha.

can i ask what you're using for the fabric covering young fellow me lad?

i'm going to have to get my shit together and build some panels

Burlap from JoAnns fabric, $2.99 per yard. Hobby Lobby also carries it. Same price. And many times they have 40% off coupons (both places). I went to Hobby Lobby Saturday and got some more. I need a few more yards of white due to my wife changing my layout. I had too many black panels (she said). Our power was out yesterday and came back on today around 2pm (storm caused auto accident up the road, a few poles came down). So I didnt work on them Sunday. I did finish them today and I will be hanging them tomorrow.

Im placing 5 panels at an angle against the wall and ceiling. My ceilings are 10' and those I would think should suffice. I plan on making some for my live room later and can always place some up then.
