So, I've always been an avid (pun definitely intended) Pro Tools user. I've liked the program, it's always seemed user friendly and easy to me, and I've just enjoyed using it.

Recently, however, I bought a new MacBook Pro (my old one being a 4 year old PowerBook G4) and figured out that I could not use my Digi 002 with Pro Tools 7.1 in Leopard (I had Tiger on my G4). So, not wanting to buy a new interface, or pay to upgrade when I shouldn't have to, I just purchased Logic Studio because i've heard good things and have had a chance to play with it a lot seeing as how I work at Apple, haha.

So I just imported some audio files from an old session I had in Pro Tools, and i'll tell ya.. I really like the results. Logic Pro has so much good stuff included with it.

This is an EXTREMELY old recording, maybe 3 years old. I didn't include the vocals, and I think the guitar tracks were rough takes, not the final ones, but I enjoy the mix. It's dirty as far as editing noise, beginning is silent for a little, and it cuts out abruptly at the end (still getting used to Logic Pro's audio editor -- I liked PT's better!)

I was just curious what you guys thought! Let me know.

Thank you,
Adam

I really like the sound quality of these tracks. guitars sound a little thin for this sort of music, but it's a a matter of preference. the bass and drums are kick ass. the end sucks i don't know why you'd cut it off the way you did. But overall good stuff. Why not put in the vocals?

Thanks for listening man! Ha, ya the guitars were a little thin, but it's an old recording and the problem was when I captured them originally! And ya, I really like the bass and drums the best. And I didn't mean to cut off the end like that, I had a nice fade out, and thought I set the bounce parameters in Logic Pro right (same way I used to in PT) but it cut off for some reason. I was too lazy to bounce again, even though you can do it offline and not real time, didn't seem like it mattered too much though.

I didn't put the vocals simply because there were a lot of Punch In's, Punch Outs, and I don't want to go through and align them all up. I originally recorded them in Pro Tools. That, and I was just focusing on the instrument parts of the song and getting used to those in PT.

Anyway man, thanks for the listen and the input!

Peace

Mixing in Logic

Adam,
I'm a mac user my self and am looking to move up to Logic Pro myself as I'm on GB4 right now. I gave it a listen and it sounds pretty darn well mixed. I think everything sounds really good. The only things other than a little thinness on the guitar is when its just bass and drums the bass can be a little too pounding and the when the snare hits its picking up like the rattle of the stand maybe or something. Other than that its really done well. What did you use to record the set?
