I've messed around with recording for a quite some time off and on...but mostly researching and whatever. This is my first full length tune that I've recorded (on this level anyway).

This is a quick rough mix. I mixed on a pair of headphones. Yeah, I know I'm not supposed to...but I'm waiting until I get some money saved so I can replace the monitors I recently sold. I'm only in the tracking phases of the album anyway. I'm looking for any and all suggestions. Or compliments? HAHA! Kidding.

"In My Eyes" - 192kbps - 6.29mb
Sorry about the large file size. Also, there isn't a vocal on it yet...there will be one later.

Listening....

Turn down the synth strings. ;)

Balance is good, the guitar a tad thin but fine.

Sound good, you did everything right. :D No much we can tell without the vocals, but its where you want it to be.

Turn down synth strings...check. Will do.

Thanks for listening!!!

Any recommendations on how I can fatten up the guitar?

Fattening up the guitar? I find that the amp can have a lot to do with it, for example I use a Marshall JCM900 and I find it a lot thinner than say a Mesa Boogie 30 watt that my friend has.

Another thing you can try is a different eq setting - say up the frequency in the bottom end - trouble is you don't want the guitar to muddy up the bottom end (bass/kick) so it is tricky.

Actually I think this mix is good right now - the guitar is clear and fits in nicely....

The guitar sounds really cool. Very Guns 'n Roses. The bass sounds nice.

The strings are cool. I'd say reduce the volume by about 20%.

The drums could use a little tweaking. Primarily, the snare should be raised. Raise a good bit. But only if you want that rock 'n roll band doing a rock ballad feel. Otherwise raise just a touch. The hats and cymbals sounds ok to me.

Hey, you didn't go with the heavy distortion stuff. It was half expected. :) This sets a pretty good mood.

Sounds cool, man. The mix sounds pretty good. :)

I'm listening right now, and i dont hear a need to turn down the strings... they seem to be more of the "focal point" than anything else. especially at 44 seconds (and every other part like that)... shit, i'd actually turn up the lower octave strings during those parts.. but thats just me. :)

BUT, i am listening through laptop speakers.. so i may be way off compared to other refrences.

i like it a lot tho!

Yeah, I figured that would be a little cliche so I didn't go that route. :)

Cool feel overall... kind of a sad dramatic sounding song... like the end of a movie or something.
You got one more vote for "turn down the synth a bit" :)
Nice clean sound, my only other nit is that it sounds like some of the drums could be lowered a bit more. Otherwise, enjoyable listen

I was also thinking some piano would be a nice touch in this song. Playing some chords and maybe taking over some "vocal" type melodies at points, just an idea. :)
