Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and I have my issue I hope you guys can help me out with. So I have an Alesis MultiMix Firewire with 16 inputs and I've been using it the past few years to record. But now my old Mac computer broke a few months ago and I need a new way of recording to another computer, but the problem is its hard to find computers with firewire anymore unless theyre on the more expensive side. Would getting something like the Behgringer UCA202 or Alesis PhonoLink work in allowing me record to a computer through USB? Thanks alot, and whatever ideas you have would be great!

You cant go from firewire to usb and running analog lines between them is a waste.

Get a cheap Belkin or SIIG firewire card (you want one with Texas Instruments chips) instead.

Were you planning to go from a Mac to a PC or something? Because every current Mac model has FireWire with the exception of the non-Pro MacBook and the MacBook Air (which would probably be terrible as a recording computer anyway for thermal management reasons...). And there's only a $200 difference between the MacBook and the 13" MacBook Pro, and only $100 more than the MacBook cost prior to about a year ago.... :)

i wasnt planning on it.. just the price difference of a mac vs. pc is pretty large. I would love to keep with a mac but price wise I would see it worth it if I could get away recording with a PC.

o by the way guys im a drummer so i dont really know THAT MUCH about recording but I try :)
