Hello All,
For the past 2 years I have been using my Phonic Helix Firewire Mixer into a Homegrown PC that I built from scratch. It has been very nice for multi channel recording.
The PC is an ABIT KW7 KT880 W/ AMD2200 cpu. It is running 1 GB of Corsair mem.
It is not connected to any outside realm and is pretty much standalone only with WinXP.
Recently It has been locking up during recording.
I tested the Memory using the ISO image of
http://www.memtest86.com/
Nothing was wrong.
I even went so far as to reformat the HD and reinstall the OS with only the minimal drivers needed for the software. Nothing. Lockups still exist.
i changed out the Firewire cable with a new one thinking that the easiest thing could be stopping me from recording. This was not good either.
I was thinking about buying a new PCI firewire card, but am not sure this would do the trick. Any suggestions.
I am willing to try other tests too if there are some suggestions that can be made.
I now find myself questioning the integrity of the actual Mixer itself.

Is there any other insight yall can think of that I should check. I am wondering if the digital side of the board has not simply gone on the fritz. I have read that the Power supply becomes suspect after a few years use on these boards but I have no problems with using the board in in a PA setup, it is only the firewire recording aspect that seems to be locking up the computer.
