Hello All,

For the past 2 years I have been using my Phonic Helix Firewire Mixer into a Homegrown PC that I built from scratch. It has been very nice for multi channel recording.

The PC is an ABIT KW7 KT880 W/ AMD2200 cpu. It is running 1 GB of Corsair mem.

It is not connected to any outside realm and is pretty much standalone only with WinXP.

Recently It has been locking up during recording.

I tested the Memory using the ISO image of

Nothing was wrong.

I even went so far as to reformat the HD and reinstall the OS with only the minimal drivers needed for the software. Nothing. Lockups still exist.

i changed out the Firewire cable with a new one thinking that the easiest thing could be stopping me from recording. This was not good either.

I was thinking about buying a new PCI firewire card, but am not sure this would do the trick. Any suggestions.

I am willing to try other tests too if there are some suggestions that can be made.

I now find myself questioning the integrity of the actual Mixer itself.

Is there any other insight yall can think of that I should check. I am wondering if the digital side of the board has not simply gone on the fritz. I have read that the Power supply becomes suspect after a few years use on these boards but I have no problems with using the board in in a PA setup, it is only the firewire recording aspect that seems to be locking up the computer.

I have a similar mixer (Helix 12FW) and had my first lockup the other night. A reboot took care of it, which I'm sure you did many times already. I'm hoping it was my firewire card and not the mixer.

My guess would be to take the cheaper route and try a new firewire card. Maybe a phone call to phonic might help.

I'm keenly interested in what you find out. Please post here if you solve your problem.

Cheers,

test your power supply, firewire is fairly high voltage and something sketchy in your PSU may explain it, especially if a rebuild didnt fix it

I did change out the PSU with another PSU already. Thinking that their might be an issue in this. This however was not the problem as the computer continued locking up. This is why I initially did the ram mem test.

I am now gonna order a new FIREWIRE card and see if this fixes anything at all...

On the Phonic website... I found that the actual mixer PSU is a problem. I am not buying this explanation though, as the Mixer can be used in a PA setup with no problems what so ever.

If I find anything... I will definitely post up.

If yall find any info as well... do let me know.

Thanks,
