I have a Tascam FW-1804 and are trying to find a pcmcia card with the recomended Texas Instrument chipset, having scoured the internet I bought a Swann card, these now have Via chipsets and although this works it is a bit tempramental, has anyone got a link to a suitable card? thanks, Rob.

I believe the new belkin cards use TI. If you find one in a retail outlet let me know where, because I need to buy one from a place with a kind return policy.

I Emailed Belkin to find out which chipset they use but as yet they haven't replied, I'm still looking for a suitable card but no-one list this in their specs.

If you check out the support page at belkin, and open the operating manual, it confirms a TI chip.

• Texas Instruments TSB12LV23 OHCI-Lynx 1394 Link Layer Host
Controller
• Texas Instruments TSB41LV02 Digital to Analog transceiver

This is only for the F5U513, their older model (with the dongle) uses a VIA chipset (i think, I know its not TI at least)

Thanks boys , I'll check all this out, Rob.
Edit. I ordered the Belkin as the manual suggests it has a TI chip, I hope this works out, I did the same with the SWANN card but they used VIA in the last batch, the manufacturers seem to use whatever is at hand at the time.

I received the Belkin pcmcia card(model F5U513) this morning, The Tascam FW-1804 synced up straight away, not the usual thinking about it or warming up routine, TI chips are the way to go, thanks for all your help, Rob.

Anybody have any idea whether the problem with VIA chipsets is with the host controller or the PHY? Has anyone ever used a board with a TI host controller and some other random PHY?

My laptop has a TI pcmcia controller but still the VIA card was not very positive although it worked after a warm-up period, I wasn't prepared to risk dropping out of sync during a session.

Belkin at Walmart.com

I purchased my Belkin firewire PCI card from Walmart.com for $19....looks like they are out of stock.
