Hi Guys,

Basically I am deciding to take the plunge and set up a little home studio to record my rock band project. I used to do all of my recordings at school, but I've now left so no longer have access to the studio there. Recently I've been doing recordings on GarageBand using either the Mic Input on the built in Mic - however these are yielding less that satisfactory results.

I want to be able to record an 8 piece drum set up (as I am a drummer myself), or multitrack a whole band at once - I'm thinking I'll need 8 inputs.

I have a 2009 MacBook, 2.1 GHz Processor, 4GB Ram, Firewire Input. The Audio Interface I am interested in is the Steinberg MR816X (as I have Cubase 5 Essential Software - I used to use Cubase at school).

My main question is:

Is my computer powerful enough (along with this AI and Software) to be able to record 8 tracks simultaneously without an stupid latency?

Also, it says the MR816X has Firewire 800, but I'm not sure if this will work with my computer?

Thanks in advance for the responses, very much appreciated.

Sam
