Mixing and Mastering.
Im looking for some opinions on the difference in sound quality from using a Presonus Firepod in comparison to a Soundblaster Audigy2.

How do these factors differ?
High end, mids, lows, definition and clarity.

Cheers,
Eck

Soundblaster cards, dont' actually record at 24 bit, they upsample until the X-Fi' cards came out. Also, they add various effects & eq settings crap etc to make it sound great, but not accurate. It's not "horrible" quality by any means, I used to have one, for games & movies. The firepod however, was made for the recording musician in mind, not games & movies.

this shouldn't even be a comparison.

The Soundblaster is a consumer-grade card designed for surround sound for games and movies on your computer.

The Firepod is designed for recording pro (well, as pro as you can get for as cheap as it is) recording.

Completely different cards.

Yeah those are two completely different products. The Soundblaster doesn't even have a preamp, and it is not designed for recording like mentioned above.

oh and BTW I just bought a firepod and it sounds amazing. ;)

How does a Mac Pro with an 8-way Core 2 Xeon differ from an IBM PC XT? You're asking that kind of question.

Clarity: the SB sucks. Definition: the SB sucks. High frequency response: the SB sucks and is noisy. Midrange response: the SB is just noisy. Lows: the SB is noisy.

Repeat after me: Creative = gamer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the FIREPOD is wonderful---I definitely like my pair of MOTU 8Pres better---but SoundBlaster hardware isn't even in the same league. The 8Pre and FIREPOD can handle roughly double the dynamic range, for starters....

Thanks all.
Thats the kind of response I was hoping for. :)

Just got my firepod deliverd today.
Pity I cant get the Free headphone amp and plug-ins deal since it only works in the USA and Im from the UK.

Anyone else care to tell how how bad the soundblaster is compared to the firepod? :D

Ive heard that Presonus don't have great customer service, Im just gona have to be very carefull with the firepod.
Ill only be using it in the studio, I wont be using it for live work or anything.

Ive heard the installation is pretty straight forward so all should be fine, fingers crossed.
