OK,

I have a P4 3 Ghz Cpu with Hyper threading ... 1 Gb ram ...and 250 Gb HDD .... i'm using Sonar 5 Producer edition.

I need an audio interface but can't decide which one to go for .. I want the portability of the Firepod ...but also don't want to spend money on something that i will probably only use once every couple of months ...

I have a Roland VS880 (multitracker) which i have been using recently to record drums .. I am wondering if i Buy the firepod ..will the preamps / convertors really make that much of a difference ... at present i am going from my multitracker straight through the line in on my computer.

Any advice suggestions are welcome :)

If you are going into the line in on your stock soundcard, then yes...the converters in the Firepod will be a HUGE difference. The lower noise and higher clarity will be evident immediately. To Firepod or not to Firepod just depends on what you want to do. If you don't need 8 pres then you might consider something smaller, but it sounds like you need them for drums. I know what you mean about not wanting to spend a fortune on something that's more of a 'hobby'. But...this hobby of ours is unfortunately fairly pricey. Oh well...

I don't think you can go wrong with the firepod.

I track drums with it all the time. Check out this tune, drums, everything recorded through the firepod

Yeah ... I definetly want to get an audio interface ..but the price range between the firpod and ....for example the rme fireface is so huge ..it leaves me wondering ... is the firepod really any good at all .... ? I know going through the line in is a recipie for disaster ...but i would just like to know on which part of the audio signal chain would be the best place to spend money ...the ad/da convertors / preamps / mics / monitors / room treatment ...

at the minute i'm hoping to upgrade my audio interface ..but am still undecided as to which one tro go for ...any past experiences or advice / suggestions are welcome ...

You recorded those drums from a real kit ...sounds excellent man ... must admit this isn't my genre at all ...but i can really appreciate the quality of this recording

The Firepod is a very good value. I have two (although I've only been using one) and I've had no problems and have been very satisfied in its performance.

Cool .. I've read alot of posts about the RME sound cards ...they are a lot more expensive but apparently difference in quality is immense ...

I really need an audio interface .. should i get the firepod and buy some nice mics ...or buy something like the rme fireface
