I'm about to buy all of this stuff - Tell me what is good or bad - SHOPPING CART PIC

Howdy all! Great forums, I should have joined here years ago!

I have been recording for some time using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and my old Athlon 800 through a Sound Blaster Live! Card. It's a crude setup but it has served its purpose over the past few years. I have been reluctant to seek out a new setup since I have gotten pretty decent at recording with it.

Anyway, it's time to move on. I have a Powermac G4 733 and a Macbook Pro. I'm looking to move my recording from my old PC to one of these machines. I am a guitarist and mostly record little alt-rock songs with my setup with my singer. I play the guitars, bass, and use live drum loops and my singer, well, sings. I record one track at a time.

So, I am looking for a good firewire solution that sounds great (I've got some killer vintage tube amps, guitars, etc.) and is as easy to use as Cakewalk Pro 9 that I have gotten so used to. I love plug-ins and would love a setup that supports them nicely and cheaply. I don't do anything with MIDI but would love to soon. It's mostly live guitars, bass, and vocals.

So, I am looking at the Firepod, Mbox 2 Pro, or the Alesis or Phonic 16 track Firewire mixers. Which one is the best solution? Anyone have any experience with any of these? I'm hoping that I can buy one of these and use the bundled software and not purchase anything else for awhile.

Thanks in advance!

It depends on how many inputs you need to record at a time.

I've had good results tracking drums with the firepod. That mbox2 seems way over priced considering it only has 2 inputs (from what I can tell)

Overall, I think I would only need maybe 2 or 3 inputs max at a time. I'm really looking fro the best overall value that includes software and has the quality I crave.
