Hello,

I've been recording my bands ep and over the next 2 weeks i've got to finish mixing everything. I'm by no means very experienced at this and so i thought i'd get some help from the more knowledgeable members here. It's a 5 track ep and i guess i will post each song as and when i've finished them so anyone who would like to help me out can make comments regarding the mix and maybe give me some pointers in how to improve each song.

We are a two piece band using only guitar and drums. When playing live we split the guitar signal and send it through a bass amp also, we have replicated this whilst recording so there is 'some' bass element to the songs but it's by no means as bassy as you'd get from using a bass guitar. However, we wanted to keep the recordings reasonably close to how we play them live, hence we decided not to use any bass guitar in the songs, so you may need to bear that in mind.

enough rambling: the first song is called 100 Club and you can listen to it here:

any help would be sweet as.

Bring up the drums in the mix. They sould great from what I can hear but they're kinda buried and need to make up for lack of bass guitar. Otherwise, great playing, timing and vocals. Nice peppy tune.

i agree that the drums can come up. my first thought when i read your description was my friend's old band, another guitar-drums two piece. their recordings were real simple, and they went for a real garage-y kind of sound, so i was kind of surprised to hear how clean your recording is.

personally, i like the lower-fi aesthetic, so i think it'd be cool with a little grit behind it, but it does sound good as it is.

Sounds good man. Adding just a little around 100-200 Hz on the guitar would fill it out well.

Thanks for all the comments. I have been listening to it through various sources and agree that the drums do need to come up a bit. Also, i'm thinking perhaps the vocals and 'bass' could come down slightly?????
listening to it in the car, it also seems that there is a dodgy frequency running through the entire song that kind of clouds up the song. Makes everything a bit less clear, i need to find this and cut it.

What do you think?

snare and kick need to come up , but maybe cut out some of the low frequencies in the toms, they don't sound bad but they're sorta distracting when they come in. i think the vocals and guitar sound fine. Maybe add more low end to the guitars to make up for lack of bass, but maybe with a fuller kick sound that wont be neccessary. In general for all your recordings for this band, since there's no bass player, put alot of emphasis on the kick to make up for the lack of bass. imho.
