I been looking, and went to the local shop and tested 3 pair.

I dont remember the exact models but I checked out a pair of $99 Shure Studio Monitor grade, and a pair of $59 Audio Technica studio phones - none had the clarity and bass response of the Sennheiser HD 280's so that's what I got - $100 out the door -

Now I will really be able to hear exactly how sucky my vocals are!

woohoo

They make a big difference. I use Ultrascone Proline 650s, they're a few years old, I need a new pair actually. May go with the 750s? I don't do any surround sound, just stereo.

I have the 280s and a pair of AKG 240s. The 280s fatigue the hell out of my ears within about 15 minutes at moderate volume when recording. Other than that I like them - I can listen to mixes on them or spot check with them at lower volumes and they do sound good for the price.

Sweet! I was gonna get the 280s a few months back, but then I just chipped in the extra fifty bucks or so and got the 380s instead! They're pretty awesome and really comfy!

I'm trying to decide between some 280's or Shure SE215 IEMs.

I need the isolation. And big headphones while drumming (...anything really) tend to slip and slide due to my long hair.

yeah those are good phones. I also like the Audio Technica ATH-M50 and Beyer DT-770

I got them to open up 3 pair and I checked them on my phone listening to one of my tunes and some Silversun Pickups - IDK if GC would let you test them or not ubt you should try to AB compare them if you can - It convinced me. I used them tonight to check some mixes and to do some vocal tracking. I think they would work for drum tracking too.

Dunno about the 280s (I'd expect it's the same) but the 380s kinda clamp down onto my head, but not in like an uncomfortable way. I can violently headbang with them on (just tried it :D) and they barely move at all!
