Finally found time for a new tune

Oh yeah, a long one to sink my teeth into ... I haven't read any of the other comments, so I may be repeating stuff ... I really like your use of the different rhythms in the beginning ... very creative tempo changes...Good vocals on this one (you always have great vocals on your tunes)

I am definitely feeling kind of a mid-eastern feel to this. Nice change at 1:30 (or so) ... The vocals at this section sound a little bit low on my machine...Actually the vocals throughout the entire mix sound like they can come up a bit.

Really nice playing. I don't really have any other mixing advice since I can only listen in lo-fi ...

Interesting tune ... nicely constructed and well played! :)

Thank God for the cable modem!!

Incredible!!!
Great groove...
Great Guitar sounds
Great Drum sounds...
I Hate You!!!

Rock On!!
The King

damn..

this is another serious tune here Sluice..

I didn't read any other comments, but this tune is excellent..

I have nerve to complain about any of it, but I think it sounds too limited and starts to almost distort a bit (climax @ 6:10ish) not a big deal at all but it might be the mp3. You should check out the LAME converter.. CDAX tractor.. Muzeman gave me the link, and Waldo likes it too. Search 'free lame converter' on google and it will be one of the first few.. This would probably sound better, and it would be a bit smaller maybe. I didn't even read your post yet..

I have to digest this tune a bit, it is another serious one..

damn..

I had to come back to this one more time and say...
"what the hell??"
"damn"
I think it is time to retire because I dont think that this can be topped!!!
Shut the forum down now because it will NEVER get any better than this!!!

We are not WORTHY!!!

Really great sound you have!
Your voice is totally captivating.

Has the perfect ebb and flow Yes used to get,(for us old dudes!):D
Dosn't even seem long at 7 minutes.

Here's the link Sam was talking about if you can use it-

Man...I posted a huge long thread on this...I came back to see other comments, and I see the earlier post I made, never made to cyber world. I think I mumbled something about liking the "waltz" feel in the beginning, but completely forget the rest of what I said. I remember this as being top notch, you have the "assults" there..but not with the drums this time...VERY nice...thank you.... and the writing is very creative, once again...and your sucky voice really shines. ..I believe it might have been a little low in volume at times. You'd probably do a bang up job on a theme CD...with two 30 minute songs... it'd be neat.

I actually have about 5 good MP3 converters, I just haven't tried VBR yet. I did try it once but didn't notice much file size change so I dropped it. I'm sure I fucked it up. I'm working on a thicker cleaner remix of (EDIT: messed up my own title for crying out loud) "Run For Your Life" (re-recording the Les Pauls) so I'll try VBR settings again.

As for this song, thanks for all the comments and mix suggestions. I'm going to wait to see if Lt. Bob comes up with any ideas for horns before I remix it. I just thought I'd share what I was working on. Thanks guys!

SAM, I actually have Q3. Let me know what server some time so I can de-rust my FPS fragging skills (which btw I aquired in Long Island working from home...:D)

I'm sending you a p.m.

'Prepare for battle!'

I found the same thing with the vbr,no change in file size.
The problem I also encountered was,if I understand the concept of vbr right, quiet parts are supposed to be encoded at a lower bit rate to lower the file size.
I do acoustic stuff with a lot of quiet passages, and it seemed to really kill the sound compared to a constant encoding.

I went back to a 160 constant,Sam said it's the highest you can go at Nowhere without getting glitches in the stream.
Seems to work fine.

Mabey I'm doing something wrong,Sam would probably know better, after what he's just been through,I'm sure he is a computer expert by now!:D

I've used Wavelab and encoded everything at 192...and no one has seemed to complain about gliching, etc. And I think the quality is great when compared to the original. I'd be hardpressed to hear a difference if blindfolded....and especially just walking into the room and guessing.

The voice is mixed too low. Other than that it's just perfect soundwise. An interesting song too.

I don't know about the commercial potential, but it sure it commercial quality (if you just remix it with the vocals louder).

Gogogo!

7 minutes long...12/8, 10/8, 4/4, 11/8-7/8 (mixed phrase) meter changes, abrupt tempo changes, and mildly tolerable singing....
You don't think it will compete with Britney Spears?

Alas...Back to the drawing board...

;)

Apologies to those bumped off pg 1 in the process, but I brought this back to point out two really... exceptional things about SLuiCe's mix... (well "exceptional" because most amateur mixes can't approach it)

1) Your expert use of delay on the stereo tracks (delay one side to open up the track -- out of the middle)... on the acoustic guits especially. Two questions: how did you figure out the delay settings? Were they based on your bpm? aaaand... how did you pan the each side of the stereo tracks in general-- hard panned each, close panned, or wide one side, close in on the other?

2) That bass sound is just freakin amazing... HOW DID YOU GET THAT?? (forgive me if it says somewhere else in the post :D) Is it synth -- like a low synth horn? Or is it a fretless bass with a compression attack setting of 0.0001 or something :D It just takes up a small part of the low end... but it FILLS that part... way PHAT.

No back to the drawing board :D Some of us could learn something here maybe before you erase the drawing board :)

Uh... apologies if this makes it awkward for you to post another song, Tom :p

Chad

Look at Chad..gettin all technical and pickin Tom's Brain.:D

Actually this is more of the kind of stuff that needs to be posted. There's way too much of "way to go man" and not enough of "how did you do that man".Im guilty of this myself.:o

Alright I confess! I didn't write this song or mix it! I stole it from Britney Spears!

I just woke up and my eyes are still red, but I'll see if I can get her to give up some specs later on this afternoon after work. I've got a garage to build.

I can answer the bass question now without checking...it's played on a keyboard synth, mixed with a small cut in and around 20Hz, with probably another small cut around 400 to deal with the layered acoustics (if I recall). After a few more small "signal chain" purchases, I'm going to pick up a bass because it's so much more fun than keys :D .

I'll check the rest for you later. Thanks for the interest fellas. Indeed the type of questions that should be on this board.

"way to go man"

seriously, the acoustic guitars sound perfect. i wanna know all about that. "how did you do that man?"
maybe i asked you that in an earlier thread but i forgot. if so, sorry to ask again.
this is an epic piece of work, as is the other stuff i heard from you. man, i can hardly come up with 3 minutes worth!

well... in the spirit of asking "how'd you do that?".. I'd like to know how you got the acoustic sound on Rhthyms. Signal chain and effects being used... :p

that is.. if it's not too much trouble... :D
