You may see in studio videos where the singer will make jerky movements with their heads. That is all part of it, along with knowing where to be *on* the microphone or sing over the top of the microphone. etc.

I remember years ago listening to vocals in recordings and saying HEY the d's and S's aren't on any of the ends of the words. I came to the conclusion that .....
A) they were backing off or tilting there heads back or ....
B) The studio engineer was performing studio magic.

Perfect example of that. You will see John Lennon is moving back when he is singing louder, and forwards when singing softer. That makes things easier for the engineers!
